Talats New Year Message to Papadopoulos

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Talats New Year Message to Papadopoulos

Postby Viewpoint » Fri Dec 29, 2006 11:02 am

KKTC Cumhurbaşkanı Mehmet Ali Talat, Kıbrıs Rum yönetimi lideri Tasos Papadopulos'a, 2007 yılında Kıbrıs sorununun çözüme birlikte yoğunlaşma çağrısı yaparak, "Birleşik Kıbrıs'a 2007 yılı içinde merhaba diyelim" dedi.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

AA-Talat mesajıyla iligili olarak şunları söyledi:

"Yeni yıl için Papadopulos'a mesajım; tabii ki bir an önce masaya oturmak ve Kıbrıs sorununu çözmek, Kıbrıs'ı birleştirmek ve Kıbrıs sorununu 2007 içinde sonlandırmak. Zaten Gambari süreci bunu öngörüyordu: 2007'in ilk çeyreğinde hazırlıklar tamamlanacak, tam teşekküllü müzakereler başlayacak. 2007 sonuna kadar demiyordu ama onu da ben söylüyorum, 2007 sonuna kadar da Kıbrıs sorununu çözmek. Bu, olabilecek bir şeydir."

"Papadopulos'a çağrım, tamamen buna konsantre olalım, yoğunlaşım" diyen Talat, Kıbrıs sorununu 2007 yılı içinde çözmek istediklerini kaydetti.

Talat, "Birleşik Kıbrıs'a 2007 yılı içinde merhaba diyelim. 2007 yılını bitirmeden, 2008'e merhaba demeden birleşik Kıbrıs'a merhaba diyelim. En büyük temennim budur, mesajım da budur" dedi.

Basically it says lets sit down as soon as possible and concentrate on resolving the Cyprus problem in 2007, this is my biggest wish.

Congratulations to Mr Talat ..... I think it is timely for them to meet. Papadopoulos cannot ignore Mr Talat anymore, the reality is he does exist. Whether he is recognised by the international community or not. I just hope they achieve something.

8) Both this and the crossing at Ledra st could be the small chinks of light and understanding at the end of a very long tunnel......i hope BOTH sides can see something positive occuring in this one small step and use it as a building block to a united future.........PLEASE!!

Can someone explain me what would be the difference between the Ledra street opening and the other crossing at Ledra Palace which is 5 minutes away?
In my opinion the only difference is that we (the GCs) will simply lose the few tourists that visit Ledras street.Guess who will profit from that….

Anyway Papadopoulos will not open that crossing. Demolishing the bridge was only ONE of the conditions for opening the crossing. How about the rest, like removing the troops from there, removing the buildings like the "customs offices" that make it a "border check point" instead of a crossing etc etc.

8) Patience Pyrpolizer Patience..rome wasnt built in a day, and a 30 year problem wont be solved in 24 hours so just wait and see..it could be an olive branch of peace....at least wait until all the work is carried out and then give your verdict.
John Lennon said give peace a chance.

Didn't he also say "Cold Turkey, has got me" as well BOF?

Anyway I don't believe crossings are the answer. At least they should serve some purpose, for example we have a lot of areas practically cut off from the rest of the island due to this division. Athienou and Tylliria are 2 examples that come to my mind. So if there would be any crossings they should at least serve de-isolate some areas.

thats a great idea! perhaps if Ledra st IS a success then these two could be next on the agenda? in my lifetime the Berlin wall went up and eventually it came down. Who would ever have believed that? I also hope to see a united Cyprus in my time - god willing.

Thank God Talat is pushing hard for a solution. I said before that Talat was our only hope in view of Papadopoulos's refusal to meet and negotiate. If you ponder on the fact that our leaders are separated by a couple of miles and yet they move all the way to New York in order to meet from time to time, you could understand the frustration of all peace loving people and in general all those that are interested to see the Cyprob solved at last.

I hope Talat pusshes hard, because he probably has to convince Turkey too, for Turkey is not in a hurry now to contribute to a solution, as her accession plans are not being implememented and the date is set for the very distant future.

Talat is pushing hard for his own solution. The one that would benefit them and not us. The one we rejected already, remember? He is not doing anything for us. He doesn't care about us. He is doing what benefits TCs and Turkey. If he cared about us he would give us our land back and stop pretending he is a president of some non existing state. I don't see the difference between him and Dectash!
