Financial Times’ bias

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby Sotos » Mon Dec 25, 2006 12:50 am

British gave to TCs too much and to GCs too little because Britain and Turkey are good friends and British hate Greek Cypriots. GCs were not satisfied and wanted to correct this. TCs didn't want to give up an inch from what their British friends gave them. Conflict broke out. This is why people rejected the Annan plan. When you force something unfair on somebody it will not work for long.

So tell me what exactly happened in 1963 then?. Please explain for the benefit of those of us who are ignorant of the facts. Tell me about the Turkish Cypriot rebellion then. What is the official version.

What happened was that Makarios made some proposals that would make our constitution like a normal democratic country constitution and TCs reacted negatively to this. Surely both sides had criminals that commited atrocities later on in the intercommunal conflict, but you can not blame Makarios for proposing changes!

Why should an 18% minority have veto powers?

Piraits, you are an idiot. Ask yourself why you the GC's with 700000 (far less than 18% of the population of the EU) should have these rights in the EU.

Because Cyprus is a country you idiot. Not an ethnic minority within a country.

Do I know other countries that have veto powers in country unions and organizations? Yes, a lot.

Do you know any minorities that have such thing within a country? In fact even separating people based on their race is undemocratic and racist.

Piratis,
Ok so Makarios made some proposals to chance the constitution which the TC's rejected (which was within their rightsto do do). What happened next did the TC's attack the GC's because of these proposals?

"trnc" is a pseudo puppet illegal state you idiot, not a country. You can't create a country on land that you stole from us.

Albeit unrecognized we are here and will be for a very long time to come. We will do everything to advance while you wait for the swing in power you long for.

The TCs used the proposals as an excuse to withdrew from the government and turn against it to continue seeking partition under the directions of Turkey. Yes, the TCs attacked GCs, and GCs responded.

The question is, why the TCs didn't accept even a single of the very logical proposals by Makarios? Why they refused to even discuss them. Don't you see that some parameters in the constitution that the British forced upon us were created intentionally to favor the small minority in such a degree that it would create resentment among the majority? How else can you explain that the 18% of TC minority was given the 30% of government jobs? (in a country that everybody wants to be a government employee, that means each TC will have 200% more chances of getting a governmental than each GC!!)

Piratis,
The truth is that we had a deal in 1960 freely entered into by all parties that the GC wanted to alter in their favour with the 13 amendments. Unfair or not you had an agrement which you wanted to change teh TC were not obliged to bend to your will then nor are they now-the best way forward is through an agreement and sticking it to. As its 25th of Decemeber I will give you a seasonal metaphor-Turkeys dont usually vote for Xmas. When your proposals were rejected the majority threw the TC's out of the Government and tried to impose their will on the minority. The rest is history. Thus the seeds of partition were sown
