Trust me, the way the English Schools cooked Spaghetti Bolognaise, it did not have any relations to Italians or any other nationality. Just soggy plain tasteless spaghetti, with tomato sauce, with some crappy mince meat.

Surely every Cypriot knows, how to cook Split Red or Yellow Lentil Soup. If not, I'll PM you soon.

oh god, that must have been awful. I remember a real culinary shock when I left Cyprus to go to school in the UK. I went from fresh salads, loads of fruit and grilled meats to pure stodge.

Bring back the Italians, I say.

Pasta and Pizza must be among the greatest cullinary inventions ever.
The Italians knew that one day people will not have the time to scratch their heads, let alone spend hours in the kitchen.I have raised two kids largely on variations of Pasta and Pizza dishes (I did cheat and made turkish pizzas sometimes!),as a single father. They have not sued me for child abuse yet... :D

Well Natty, even according to Piratis, who claims, that overwhelming majority of Greek Cypriots today, do not wish to unite with Greece in a form of a Enosis, so perhaps the Turkish Cypriots had the foresight back in the 60's, that Enosis was not in the best interest of Cyprus.

I don't however hear our GC's friends saying "thank you" to the TC's, for preventing a terrible mistake that the Enosis would have been, that they ( the GC's ) do not want it today.

Hey Kikapu, well I have to agree with Pirates on this, the overwhelming majority of GC's don't want 'enosis' anymore, well as far as I know...but the thing that I get frustrated about is when I read that 'the GC's only wanted 'enosis' to oppress or even get rid of the TC's'....I know that for the vast majority (99.9% of the population in fact ;)) that wasn't the case at all!

Peace! :)

I've been a member of this forum for a long time now, yet I'm still so confused about many things...although I guess I'm not the only one...

BTW, When I said I didn't support 'the independent idea' I meant the 'the enosis idea'...Just to clear that up...

You are definitely not the only one with questions, but one of the few who is willing to ask questions and keep an open mind, I think.

The more I discuss all these issues in the forum, the more I realise that we must somehow visualise a new future instead of wallowing in the pain and anger of the past.

No I agree....... but I also think that we have to try and understand the past before we can understand the present and even the future and before we can ever really move on...(well as much as we can)....

peace! :)

Absolutely correct. The T/Cs were not a target and neither was any consideration given to the fact that they would object to Enosis. My generation who lived through the EOKA period will tell you the slogans popular at the time and none had anything to do with the T/Cs who simply were not in the frame . We , my generation , never even considered what the T/Cs feelings were , we just simply considered Cyprus to be our country and the T/Cs were a mere minority , a small one at that.

Natty (and Miltiades), Klerides's new book is out. You must read it. It is very enlightening. I had the previlege to read some extracts well before publication. It is a masterpiece.
