if you are willing to wait, then you can do it that way, but the easiest way is to set the router to clone the mac address of the pc that was previously connected to the cyta modem..

Do it this way...

1. Plug pc into modem... when working double click the network icon in the system tray...

2. click support tab

3. click details button

4. write down the physical address

5. enter that address in the "clone this mac address" section of your routers configuration page

6. plug router into modem

voila

:D

ps. dont rely on a wireless router giving you access all around the house, sadly the way they build houses in cyprus makes them huge faraday cages which prevents signals from travelling very far...

Get extended antennas for the wireless router. It makes a huge difference.

If it doesn't work, get an electrician in to pass Cat5e cable through the telephone conduit making a network throughout the house.

I have homeplugs to route the network around my house...

Sadly my upstairs and downstairs are on completely different feeds (consumer units), so I had to connect them together using a cat5 from a homeplug upstairs and downstairs..

Any item i plug in to a network port gets its IP from the router, and a base station downstairs serves the patio and pool areas... not that you can read a laptop screen in the sun..

Upside is I get a full 85mbps over the homeplug, rather than the variable rate of the wifi connection...

Hi G.Man

When you talk of 'HomePlugs', are you talking of the new system that goes via the house electrical system???

I believe he is. Should you have a 3 phase electrical system, get an electrician to move all the points you need to the one phase for these plugs to work. Waiting for the 200mbps homeplugs to test it with TV systems (dreambox, netvision, Primehome, MiVision etc) in order to see if its efficient with them. The 85mbps plugs are excellent for internet, hardly losing any bandwidth, though when I tested them, it was over a short distance!

They are perfect for routing a network around the house...

85mbps is best if you want to transfer movies between your pc and xbox 360 ;)

Anyone who needs pc setup advice, or wants to upgrade a pc, give me a shout... I am far cheapr than anyone else in cyprus

;)
