Thanks Devil,

& G Man - if you import goods into Cyprus from another EU member state, no VAT is payable (assuming you've paid VAT when you bought it).

Excellent suggestion there Steveash I've bought loads of stuff from them over the years -- not been disappointed yet .

Also Microdirect is pretty good and only 5 mins from my sons house so I sometimes pop in to microdirect when visiting my son

I've been looking at replacing my ageing laptop - the USA prices are certainly much better than the UK.

If I were to buy a laptop or PC from the USA, would I need to change the power supply ?

Regards,

I ordered many things from USA and all I had to pay was VAT. A friend of mine ordered a Notebook computer from http://www.bhphotovideo.com a few months ago and he only had to pay the VAT. The power supply of 99% of Laptops and most desktops will work with both kinds of voltages.

Isnt that what i said?

It was others that said they would need proof, the packages from the UK and other EU member states are not earmarked for import duty...

Hi G.Man,

You did - I was just expanding on it as the same applies throughout the EU.

Hi G.Man

Yes - I'm seriously thinking about getting one of the Shuttle Barebone systems (Intel) & doing my own thing. Not too sure whether to wait until I'm in the UK next summer and bring it back with me (it's small enough for hand luggage) or get it mail order.

I'll have to drop them an email to get their shipping costs.

Nigel

I am happy to bring it back for you if you want to order one over xmas...

I did the same with mine last year, and BA will take it in the hold as fragile luggage... even had some nice man collect it from me so it didnt have to go thru the baggage conveyor
