Which are the best architects in Cyprus? Most of the homes I see look just very .. usual, and anything that tries to be different most of the time looks kitch! Are there any architects in Cyprus that can design homes that will meet the needs of their customers and also be elegant and unique?

I agree and indeed this seems a problem not peculiar to Cyprus. Crete is another country that springs to mind.

Perhaps they should go and work with some of the architects in Portugal where they design gorgeous homes suitable for the Mediterranean climate.

Hi Sotos,

Unfortunately, there are a lot of rather bland white concrete boxes around.

I suggest you take a look at the RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) members' directory at: http://members.riba.org/memdir/ and search for member is Cyprus - you'll get 48 names.

Interview three or four architects before choosing one. Remember that you will be working with your architect for quite some time, so it is best to appoint one with whom you can get along and one who is receptive to your thoughts, ideas and suggestions.

Take a look through their portfolios to see if you like their designs and get them to take you to view some of their work.

If you have your own thoughts and ideas on your property, draw these up in the form of a plan and discuss them with your architect.

I think that I understand your question (or may be not !!)

Is the quest here for architects that have designed individual residential homes in Cyprus, that have been built, and have won internationally recognised awards.

According to a google search there are none.

Check out the Hadjimatheou development in Vergina/Aradippou. Architect is George Solomou. Very different, modern and practical. The roofs are curved like Sydney Opera House. The use of Lefkara Stone work is also nice. Mobius in Larnaca is also quite daring!

I used Rodion Panayiotou - his office is in Gemini House, Theclas Lysioti Street. (Behind Marks and Spencer).

It would be nice to see photographs of what these architects have actually designed and been built.

Could we not then have a little poll to decide who is best and worthy to at least get the Cypus-Forum prestigious international award !!

Words of recommendation mean very little in this context for me.

Yes I would also like to see some photos! I don't know why the architects can't even invest 500 pounds to make a half decent website with some basic info and photos of their best works. This was one of the few I found with something worthy: http://www.udsarchitects.com/
