A Cyprus Petition

Postby bill cobbett » Sun Dec 17, 2006 5:38 pm

There is an on-line petition to the UK Prime Minister on the Cyprus situation at

http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/cyprus/

which members might like to support.

northern Cyprus remains isolated in spite of commitments from the UN, the EU, HM Government and the PM personally to end isolations

The reason Northern Cyrpus remains isolated is because it is an illegal self-proclaimed government that the world does not recognise. That could end tomorrow if the Turkish government ceased its illegal occupation.

I will sign this petition like all the others, but I really don't think it will make the slightest difference. The UK have a vested interest in Cyprus and the government have shown themeselves not to be concerned about destroying sovereign nations (e.g Iraq)

Solvit, Thanks for your response but I do not think the two petitions are mutually exclusive. If I wanted to be mean I could refer you to this one http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/armeniangenocide but I do not thimk that would be helpful.

Humanist is right the e-petition is to the UK PM. It is part of the official Downing St site and can only be signed by UK citizens and expatriates but yes there is another far more wide ranging and on-going petition on the Cyprus issue at http://www.greece.org/themis/cyprus/annan/ which may be of interest and can be signed by anyone.

UK residents and expats may want to look again at http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/cyprus

YiannisP - what can I say? other than largely agree with you but I would disagree with anyone who says that we are pissing in the wind on this one. I would insist that (in order of magnitude) I am urinating in a scale 5 hurricane, with a tsunami bearing down on me, during a scale 9 earthquake with the Sun going supernova and with my wife moaning about my shortcomings. I always try and bear in mind that evil happens when good people do nothing so by signing take some comfort in knowing you stood up and were counted.
