Every one entitled to vote should vote and any one living legally in Cyprus has as much right to criticize aspects of life just as I LIVING IN THE UK DOES EVERY DAY !!!

As I said, you do have the legal right to vote here, but I maintain that we do not have the moral right to do so. A coupla years back, we didn't even have the legal right to do so, not even as Commonwealth citizens. This implies the Cypriots didn't want us to have the right. They still don't, so why go out of your way to put their backs up?

Personally, I have a feeling that if the matter were taken to the ECJ, the latter could easily rule against the change, on the grounds that it infringes the sovereign rights of member-nations. If it didn't, how come that you are disenfranchised for national elections? It doesn't make sense.

Agree 100%, it's time the Cypriot authorities woke up to the fact that the EU isn't just an instrument to get whatever they want, there are rules that have to be followed.

Changes have to be made - I went to vote in Limassol, the instructions were only in Greek - which I speak and read, but I can imagine that someone who doesn't would have difficulty figuring out what to do.

So in other EU countries they have instructions in all languages? Greek also?

I don't know, but I'm talking about Cyprus. Here are the reasons they should have voting instructions in the three languages:

1. Cyprus historically has strong ties with England, why waste that advantage, it's responsible for so many areas of economic growth (property, retail, financial service companies); people from the UK should feel comfortable when they come to live here.

2. England is one of the signatories to the 1960 treaty of guarantee, not having voting instructions in English is like not having them in Turkish, an indication that other nationalities that share the island are not supported.

The classic argument that's been floating around recently is that everyone should learn Greek. We are NOT in Greece. We're an independent country with its own identity, advantages and future.
