BANANA REPUBLIC

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

BANANA REPUBLIC

Postby Bananiot » Sat Dec 16, 2006 2:00 pm

Where else could it happen but in a banana republic? The President goes on a state visit to a huge country and he takes with him a large number of businespeople. So far so good. However, the lawyers that will seal all deals made derive only from his advocacy office! In another country, the President would step down in shame. In a banana republic, the obedient servants simply gaze at events.

Have the news dried up so much that you are forced to write about which lawyer put together the agreements? The president happens to hold the most successful law firm in the island...where else would he get the best lawyers to draw them up?

You want banana republic? Just follow George Bush or John Prescott around for a day and you'll be pissing yourself.

1)Bush doesn't know the exact geographical location he just invaded
2)Blair has been prtrayed as Bush's poodle with the cherry on the cake being a live conversation between the 2 of them proving that fact.
3)Berlusconi has been buying judges for the last 10 years or else he would have been facing 10-15 years in prison by now.
4) Poland has a president and prime minister that are twin brothers!!
5) Putin has just been exposed for having a former KGB spy murdered here n London.
6) The leader of the occupied territories resdes in the "turkish EMbassy" not the so called presidential palace.

And you call the fact that Pap used a few of his lawyers for the agreements as a banana republic. I don't liek the guy either but get real.

Great argument, DT. Others have done worst! Everything is just fine in the banana republic.
Only, Blair is on the way out and so is Bush. As for Berlusconi, he has already been ousted.

What I dislike immensely is seeing our political leaders exhibiting their unsophisticated tastes and mediocre perception of importance by wearing suits and ties in sweltering heat with temperatures exceeding 40 d celcius.
I wonder if this type of "microastiki symperifora " is unique amongst Cypriots self exponents of importance.

The tie appears to be a must for all occasions , one could easily compare that to a donkey wearing a sama ? in order to be a real donkey .F..k that with the sun blazing and 40 plus degrees. !!

Very interesting subject and I find myself in agreement with Bananiot and Miltiades.
1. What others do is no excuse, two wrongs don't make a right even in Cyprus.
2. It is wrong for the President to conduct official business as if it is his personal business.
3. I hate wearing ties and I detest people sweating under the "proper" but in reality improper clothes. I studied at the English School in Nicosia from 1954 to 1961 where wearing a tie was compulsory even in the summer. When I finished the school, my first reaction was relief that I would not have to wear a tie everyday.

I believe that during State visits, the diplomats on both sides agree on dresses too so that if one will appear just with a shirt, so does the other. Now it may be that the Chinese officials are also fond of "sweating" dresses, so it us not do injustice to "the president" on the conduct of dress. Perhaps he had no choice.
