How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

I agree with some of your proposal yet disagree with other part of it. I am trying to understand here. I agree that settlers are human and a just and fair manner would need to be in place to deal with this issue. I do feel that not everyone can be sent back but again not all need to stay either. As far as compensation for refugees I agree but for those who do not wish to return and there are many, there are those who live overseas and call Australia, Britain US etc home and would ove the compensation or even the right to sell it off freely, there are many refugees who have made the south their home and they too will be happy to be compensated also.

As far as recognition of TRNC I disagree in that in theory and as far as I comprhend it it is separation and I am oposed to nay form of separation not only on the matter of Cyprus but even, separation of commuites and neighbours and the notion of individuality.

These are only my views and I respect yours. I also want to say that is others choose to ruin this civilised conversation I amay choose not to respond as I do not wish to ruin this by giving sotmothing else power.

Thanks man.

The thing with settlers is that we see them in different ways. These people are on the whole simple people and were used to serve a purpose. I do not want to see a single one of them put to such use again. Most GCs see them as pieces on a board that have it in their hearts to harm GCs. They just wanted a better life and saw an opportunity and in their haste and uneducated way lumbered into a war zone. How can we be dismissive of them once again?

Self-determination and therefore recognition, firstly by the RoC is paramount. We need to be able to bring ourselves up to the standard of living that the south enjoys so that we can feel equal and can negotiate on an equal level. I think this will be beneficial to both sides because it will eliminate the fears we have and the dependence on Turkey.

Zan .. I hear very clearly at what your saying I am able to see it differently now. You are right no one deserves to be used ...

I was basing my perspective on the issues experienced in the Israel/ Palestine saga and the problems faced by and caused by the settler situation.

That is a gross misrepresentation of what i said DT. I SAID that they have been used and it is not right for us as (Cypriots) to keep doing so.

Respect and recognition of the TRNC by the RoC will go a long way in securing trust with the TCs.

No kidding? So if we gift you our homeland you will trust us? The same for us! You gift us your share of Cyprus, go back from were you came from so finally we can have peace, and not only we will trust you but we will love you!

Humanist, of course both sides suffered. Some suffered more, some less, but lets not get into that now again. The question is what about the future. And unfortunately some want this suffering to continue just for the other side, while they will be finally allowed to fully enjoy the spoils of war and what they violently took away from us.
Unfortunately some people don't have any intention of making the future any different that the past.

Until everybody realizes that they can not gain on the loss of the other and have peace at the same time, the Cyprus Problem will not be solved.

DT - no it is not right for the RoC to use settlers just because the Turkish governement used them - two wrongs do not make a right. Zan is correct they are human beings. At the end it wont matter because with Turkey's EU membership they would be able to live anywhere they choose anyhow and that may be Cyprus.

Piratis thank you for coming on board to talk about the future.

Zan suggested earlier what he would like to see and I agree with some of his views not others.

I personally agree with bizonal / bicommunal prposition as per Annan Plan. Tottal demilitarisation of Cyprus, both states stay the way the are, Varosha stays in the North, Green Line made into PEACE Park with all those with property in it rightfully compensated, all refugees to have the right of return, compensation for those who do not wish to return and there, will be many that will not. An independant committee to look into the settler isue, compensation to settlers who return by the Turkish government, compensation to TSC's & GSC's whose properties have been used for public works as they will be used by all Cypriots, education system that does not teach religious studies but encourages ans has compolsory both languages.

Both Communities take action in combined workshops to encourage cultural and communal experiences, breaking down of myths about each other, peace rallies, peace parties, youth programs etc. Come on people multicuturalsim works it can work in Cyprus too. Lets not forget the master plan is for Europe without borders anyway so the sooner we solve this and get on with ourlives the better for all us in the long term.

Zan I appreciate that you may disagree but this is my view it does not mean it needs to be adapted.

The reality my friends is that we have had a situation that is for the past 32 years and it has not worked so we need to come up with alternatives and we need to do it fast. I do not know why both Administrations have not come up with alternative proposals to the AP after the July 8, agreement. That shows lack of importance on the issue. Both leaders should have sat down and come up with their own suggestions immediately 6 months later and no word from either side. Sometimes I feel it's a child like game except people's lives are being played with.
