Netrunner (Cytanet) is NOT 1mbit but 640Kbits max

I went to the Netrunner website to find out their prices to reply to another thread and I was shocked to find out that their home package that you pay 12 pounds per month is not for 1Mbit for for 640Kbits!!!

Ideal for home users with heavy Internet usage. Perfect for those who would like fast access to the Internet with speeds up to 640Kbps

Can any Netrunner users confirm this? You can go to http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ and test your speed. You will never get 1Mbit as there are overheads but if you have a true 1Mbit connection you should be able to get between 750-850Kbits.

Its a typo, my connection is easily making 1000kb/s on downloads I get a constant 115-120KBps (KBytes not bits)

On a good day, my connections can download at practical average speeds of ~850 kbits/s. I think on an ordinary day, it may drop to 650-700 kbit/s. On a really bad day, it drops to 0 kbit/s! :(

Queried this myself when we first had it installed. Cyta's engineer said "anything above 750 is classed as 1mB". Not a computer buff.... does that make sense to anyone?

Cytanet say quite clearly that their "ultra-high-speed", expensive 1 Mbit/s connection is a maximum speed and can go down according to traffic. I sent the following e-mail to Cytanet in October:
The BBC has published an article on Internet bitrates at http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/6041446.stm

"In the UK the fastest speed currently on offer is 24Mbps (megabits per second) although typically the fastest people will get is about 8Mbps. French surfers are enjoying around 24Mbps as standard."

I laughed at this, mentally comparing this free service with Cytanet's paid 1 Mbit/s "service"!

"Experts warn the UK is falling behind its European counterparts when it comes to speed." Then, perhaps, Cyprus is not in Europe!

I received the following reply:
First of all we would like to thank you for your e-mail.

Please note that your email has been forwarded to the appropriate
department.

Try the new Prime Tel service. Check out the website www.primehome.com . Fed up with CYTA so I changed over. Much better and cheaper.
