No disrespect to you DT but Ismet is a well informed man. I have seen his posts on other forums and he is seldom wrong on most subjects, especially legal matters.

thanks mrfromg. I fail to see what his point is. Legally the sovereignty of cyprus is indivisible.

What the EHCR said is completely different regarding the turkish troops exercsising authority over the northn part. But even if that was somehow so twisted and turned in order to fit in with what elko is saying that article 2 reads it to be then that should mean that ercan airport belongs to turkey.

As far as I know you are claiming to be trnc, and tturkey has not ceded northrn cyprus.

Yes your honour. Whatever you say. Now catch this:
ffffffrrrrrrrrtt.

I wonder have you read the Chicago convention AT ALL?

Article 6
Scheduled air services
No scheduled international air service may be operated over or into
the territory of a contracting State, except with the special permission or
other authorization of that State, and in accordance with the terms of such
permission or authorization.

Btw Elko,
The fact that Roc did not fight her right for the illegality of flights between the occupied areas and Turkey doesn't mean it makes them legal.
Simply it did not bother. Or if you like she was generous to you.

This move is independent from the efforts of EU Presidency in the first half of 2007 under Germany. As you all know, Germany has made a strong commitment to lift the embargoes against TRNC.

Some may say that there are legal obstacles against such a move. If that is the case, how come direct flights between Turkey and TRNC have been going on for years and the GCs have not been able to do anything about it?

Just a word for the fanatics here: please save your efforts, this is a serious subject and lets have your legal reasons if you have any. No need for the usual blah blah blah.

Firstly, i expected nothing less from the treacherous british. They want turkey any any cost and they will do what ever to help them. Bastards.

Secondly, as for the legal bit, well its bloody obvious, the TRNC is totally illegal, why do you need anymore than that. What ever happen to international law ? < i know its worth jack shit when it doesn't suit the likes of the UK and USA.

Finally, and i dread saying this, but we GC are gonna get f#cked over the cyprus problem, because we are too small to do anything about it. The UK will have its way, the USA will be helping them and turkey gets a free ride.

In time, turkey would have got what it wanted and we would have had no choice but to go along with it.

Anyone got a nuke handy ??

Funny, we say exactly the same thing. The TC's have always had a bad deal to say the least. We all feel this is not going to be any different.

Pray for us pantheman.

I think everyone should be realistic, the likely hood of opening Ercan to air traffic is as likely as giving Famagusta back to the Greek Cypriots.

This wont happen until there is a political settlement.

This is because it is not that easy to open such an airport under the current political situation.

I think at best the only thing we will see prior to a solution is the port of Famagusta being opened up under EU supervision.

I think the solution to Ercan will come in the form of a settlement that will gain momentum after Turkeys elections.

This is mainly due to pressure being put on Turkey such as the suspending of the eight chapters of it's EU course.

They will push for a settlement before they ever have to implement the 8 chapters in order to save face to the Turkish nation.

All in all, in my opinion, Ercan will continue to be as is.
