so let me get this straight. In the UK the gate is saying that this flight is leaving for turkey...there's a couple of guys from the airline there whispering to everyone "pssst, don't say anything but we're really going to ercan"?

The airline already knows if there any passengers due to get off in Turkey so they tell you in the UK checkins that your flying direct today.

As you GCs well know Turkey has plenty of tourists which also use CTA so its no use telling us to get rid of the Turks. They are with us every step of the way better get used to it if you havent already.

so let me get this straight (again)

you've solved your longest standing problem with which you are willing to trade in varosha for but you will not launch 2 separate flights (one for ercan and one for turkey) due to the fact that you do not wish to upset your turkish cousins?

These are not regular flights just one offs as there are always passengers getting off in Turkey. But the rumour is that these are test flights to see if it can be done and who will object and how they will be stopped, as once the plane enters Turkish air space technically Turkey can do what they want. With 6000 bed capacity hotel being built in the Bafra region I doubt very much if the south can hold out much longer with the isolation issue on flights, a way will found around it and everyone will play dumb. That's what you get for being such a smart arse and think you can have it all your own way all of the time.

That'll learn me...Imagine the arrogance of expecting an illegal airport with no recognised FIR of its own not to handle flights. I must be living in fairy land.

Pyrpolizer,

I didn't check the website, merely stated there was an ad in The Sunday Times that gives the clear impression that flights are to the North, even showing a map of the island with just two place names - Kyrenia & Famagusta.

Might be one for the Advertising Standards Authority.

(You do not know me so are not in a position to judge my mental age, just as I would not yours).

Again, pure ignorance, arrogance and refusal to believe the truth. Direct flights are not permitted to the TRNC so no flights leaving, say the UK, can advertise for them to so. It is not financially viable to half fill planes and send one to Turkey and the other through Turkish air space so they fill them up the best they can and do what is necessary with the flight. There is nothing illegal about flying from Turkey to the TRNC so there should not be a problem with the insurance. For that matter, Turkish insurers probably cash in on that aspect of things.
