There are quite a few points raised here but the most striking is the utter ignorance of some people here.
1. Slaughtering an animal outside a slaughterhouse is wrong. There are two major Muslim Celebrations and one of them is the Sacrifice Bayram. The wealthy i.e. those who have no debts are supposed to sacrifice an animal, some of it is distributed to the poor. In Cyprus the Turkish Cypriots hardly ever observe this ritual but the population in turkey take it very seriously. Until about ten years ago, at the time of the sacrifice the streets turned into rivers of blood. Very ugly sights indeed. Now it is strictly forbidden but old habits die hard.

2. It is customary with muslims to vow for a sacrifice when they want something to happen. To have a child, to pass an exam, to get a job and so on are good enough reasons. The normal rule is that one third of the animal is for consumption of the family, one third goes to neighbours and one third goes to the poor.

This is the background to the affair. Killing an animal for whatever reason seems so cruel yet most of us are not vegetarians. Looking at this incident from this perspective, the only thing that was wrong was the killing outside a slaughterhouse. As I pointed above, old habits going back hundreds of years is not easy to change but the Turkish government and the municipalities are making a good effort. The next festival for sacrifice is at the end of this year, so we will witness lots of similar incidents again.

If you allow a camel to put his nose in your tent, he will soon have his arse in your tent and will proceed to shit all over the place !............... An interesting comparison with the old adage, 'Familiarity breeds contempt' :D :D :D :D :D

By the way, I feel obliged to let you know that the principal manager responsible for the "sacrifice" was removed from his duties as of yesterday due to this unacceptable event. Furthermore, the way and the place which this instance took place was ridiculed by the media and the people.

Stop making irrational judgements about a country and its citizens based on isolated unfortunate events. It is premature to say the least.

Murataga,
1. Welcome to the mad house. First and foremost this is the place for Turkish or Greek bashing, depending on which side you are on and also the Brits get their fair share. thgis is free entertaintment and costs nothing.

2. You wrote about the "unacceptable" event? There is nothing wrong about the sacrifice. this is part of the tradition of muslims. the unacceptable part was that it took place on the tarmac rather than a proper slaughter house. Anyway I doubt if the tarmac was less healthy than a proper slaughter house but that is besides the point. The sight of a camel's throat being cut is unsightly enough.

3. The chap responsible is only suspended from work when this event hit the news. I am sure he will return to his work quietly after a few days and rightly so. As I explained in my previous post, such incidents will be with us for some time to come. Of course what has happened is wrong but not one to be ashamed of. Nothing compared to child sex and forced prostitution that is ripe in western Europe. These are the real evil things and all governments are working hard to kill it but not easy.

It is our duty to fight evil everywhere but no need to apologize.

Thanks for the welcome elko.

Certainly practicing religious beliefs is nothing to apologize for, but a government employee sponsored camel sacrifice in an airport is a bit of stretching it. That is what makes this incident unacceptable. I do not share your opinion that the official will resume his duties in the days to come and hope that lunatics like him are kept away from any duties in the government.

Certainly there are worse crimes than this one but that is no excuse to overlook such ridiculous incidents.
