Greece objected to US plans to partition the island in 1964

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Never said it belongs to me but we have a situation that has become complicated over many years there comes a time when you have to say enough is enough and just turning back the clock is not the right way to go. What we do in the name of peace and common sense is the right way to go and uprooting and punishing the thousands of people because of a piece of land is just plain nonsense. This is not about land it is about survival and respect of a people but that is just a red rag to anyone that has Greek as a part of their heritage. That is not meant to be a slur on Greekdom.

Do you see what I was replying to? You said that Cyprus belonged to Turkey in the 50's, and I just said you were wrong. So what do you mean by "you can't have it all ways Alexiss"? Did you mean to say "I was wrong, guess I'm not too familiar with the history of my own country"? :D

I don't quite get what you are getting at here Alexiss? The original quote was about Turkey having plans to split the island long before the 50s and that is what I was referring to. I realise that the island was annexed by the British some time in between :?

If it is all right for the British to annexe an island in your mind then it is all right for Turkey to do the same. The logic must hold for both.

I am off to work now but if I have got the wrong end of the stick let me know and I will answer it tonight. You can even PM me if you like in case it gets lost in all the posts.

zan there is not much to clear up. You debated with Sotos over whether Cyprus was to be returned to Turkey by England, you said it was, he said it wasn't. I too said it wasn't, because England had annexed it after Turkey's defeat in WWI. That's all.

Piratis' comment said before the 50s and that is what I was responding to. 1913 is before the 50s as far as I know and that is when England annexed Cyprus. Maybe he did not want to go back that far.

The point I was trying to make is that if it was OK for England to annex the island and then offer it to who ever they wanted then it is ok for the TRNC and Turkey to do the same. Why not?

It is OK if you do not believe in the principles of democracy and of human rights but instead in the jungle were the powerful can do whatever his power allows him. Maybe you will suggest to bring back slavery as well?

Apparently such practices are OK for you, and it is no surprise knowing what your "principles" are. But it is not OK for us and we will therefore fight for justice even if that doesn't suit you.
