Yes,thousands of us who have lived in perfect harmony with each other for generations, never at loggerheads on account of our religious beliefs, never engaging in any of the political issues which are proven to be engineered by the western powers, now suffering as a result of their connivance's. The traditional culture of Cyprus has been put through the mangle of those countries which have none. In days gone, a hungry man could knock on anyone's door and receive a meal, without question, in other countries (as above) the reaction would be to call the police. While so many people are at each others throats, putting their views to each other and trying to determine what's best for the situation here, the politicians are rubbing their hands together and laughing at the whole lot of you. Have you ever considered trying to ignore them?, A classic example of the kind of hypocrisy we are all subject to is the feast at the 'Guildhall' in London, where the politicians gather to discuss hunger in third world countries. Yes, there are still some of us left, thinking Cypriots who have no interest in all the lies and under-handedness which has destroyed our natural culture, long may we remain so. :( :( :( :( :(

Sounds a bit like the Shire in Lord of the Rings.

Shame Sauron won there.

In the early 1950s, if you asked a Cypriot his nationality, he would have been proud to say Cypriot, without epithets. Why did it change? We Brits drove a wedge in, around 1954, with their "divided, we stand" policy by recruiting Turkish-speaking Cypriots to quell the Enosis uprisings among students, that culminated in the EOKA stand-off (prisoners under Turkish-speaking guards), eventually resulting in independence under impossible conditions.

The UK started it all and has done nothing to repair the damage they caused - rather the opposite.

The days are long gone when I could go into a coffee shop and chat together with Greek- and Turkish-speaking people, all Cypriots. I think the last time I did this was probably in 1952. Paradise lost!

Rubbish! Makarios/Grivas started it by demanding union with Greece. Why would Turkish-Cypriots want to go from living in a British colony to living in a Greek colony, especially with (then) recent memories of the treatment of Turks in Crete, Thrace etc. As I have written elsewhere, if the GC leadership had demanded independence and invited the TC community to join them, it is likely today that Cyprus would be an independent united island.

The GC leadership seem to have a special gift for making enemies. Witness the irritation that their stance is now creating in the EU.

Here we are again, back on the same old topic, every one of us is aware that the problems we now have are solely the responsibility of politicians, they could not give two hoots about the welfare of the people and while we are all actively engaged in spouting the nonsense they have created, there can never be peace among us, we are all subject to the decisions they make, when we cast votes we are actually giving them licence to continue robbing us of our dignity, imposing their will on us and allowing them to spread disharmony among us, most of the political comments made on this forum are uttered by 'would be' politicians (bless 'em), whose knowledge has been gained from books they have read, written by others of the same ilk. Get down to the truth of the matter, ordinary people harbour no animosity toward their fellow man, only the interference of outside influences created the problems we all face now, let us not gratify the war-mongers by giving them our support, forget T/C & G/C, we are all Cypriots. :) :) :) :) :)

What is english?

A mix of german, dutch, norwegian and french?

Any brit with half a brain realises we are just a mongrel of other nations offspring..

We were colonised, invaded, raped and killed by many other nations before we got where we are today...

... in other words, got on with life instead of demanding return of ancestral homelands, compensation, removal of 'settlers' ....
