Election Polls and Results?

Postby Rikos » Sun Dec 14, 2003 6:33 pm

Because of Saddam's capture in Iraq, there is only the least coverage of other international news here in the USA. I am very much interested in the results of the elections in the occupied north, but I cannot find any useful information. The only "news" I am able to get from today (Sunday/Kuriake) is:

1. The polls are open (as if I didn't already know that).

2. Rauf Denktash waived his ballot at reporters before depositing it into the ballot box (every candidate does this in every election).

Is there any real news one of you local Cypriots can share with us? Any exit polling taking place? Estimates on the number of ballots cast? Predictions? Rallies? Comments from Anakara?

Any news? Anything at all?

It is so frustrating to not be able to know what is happening...

Right now it seems that while the opposition is ahead about 5% it seems that due to the system there both sides will get 25 seats in their "parliament".

Ah, thank you!

This is perhaps a significant show that the TC's are eager to try something new, and I think might be an eye-opener to both Denktash and Ankara.

This is also perhaps a big problem. With a divided parliament, nothing will get done, is this not so? Each side will veto the motions of the other side.

Well, I shall continue to hope and pray for progress. I think perhaps it is Ankara's move now.

Here are the final results:

Republican Turkish Party (CTP): 35,18 percent (19 deputies)

National Unity Party (UBP) : 32,93 (18 deputies)

Peace and Democracy Movement (BDH): 13,14 (6 deputies)

Democrat Party (DP): 12,79 (7 deputies)

(1st and 3rd are opposition parties)

I don't think Denctach needed an eye-opener. It was obvious for long time already that TC's didn't support him.

General opinion about elections!

Postby FinalFantasy » Sat Jan 03, 2004 4:56 pm

Bec of turkish ppl they effected elections very badly! if we compare this percentages with the population of northern cyprus it wont be acceptable! just compare how many turkish cypriots gived their votes to CTP and compare with other political parties like ubp! or compare the election results in 1998 (the percentages) in northern cyprus you'll see that denktashs political parties their %s are reduced very badly. which means ppl in northern of cyprus (the real population) nearly 70% and more lets say they wants peace! thats what i seen at last elections in northern..what u guys thinking? And the other thing i heard that last elections denktashs political parties and leaders they gived a lot of food to turkish ppl and said if u dont give your votes to our parties we'll send u back where u come from!! soz turkish ppl they sold their votes just for a pack of rise or a stupid amount of money!! this is all facts ppl! i'm tellin yah! what a sad elections for turkish cypriots!! they should ashamed of themselves who sold their votes just for a peace of bread or land! take care yall! :eyecrazy:
