Stuballstu, don't call me a pessimist, or a racist by saying that the property commission that is set up is just as illegal as the TRNC.
Are we playing monopoly here? You cant just erase GC's ancestoral and presently owned land JUST for your own interests. Wheres the medium? Your ready to go to the next steps and not look back to the inhumane steps that you never covered or closed with the GC's. If the TRNC is illegal, what makes you think the toothfairy property commission will be legal?

I am not calling you a pessimist or indeed a rascist. How do you come to that conclusion?

You are completely missing the point. The ROC government had a "NO" campaign implying to the GC's that they would get a better deal and more concessions from Turkey through the EU. In the best part of 3 years what have they got in concessions from Turkey? The ROC government is letting down ordinary GC's and some are now starting to feel this way. You just have to look at the applications, some 1400, to the property commission set up in the north. These are brave GC's who apply to this as their own government calls them "traitors". It is the ROC government who is betraying the GC's who is the "traitor"?

As for the "toothfairy" commission you claim. Hasn't anyone told you that the toothfairy and santa don't exist. The property commission set up does exist just ask some of the applicants.

The European Courts will not refer to the "TRNC" in any of its findings. They in actual fact have instructed Turkey to find a "local remedy" to refugees rights hence the property commission was founded.

So I ask again, what do ordinary GC's do if the European Courts find the property commission (AKA the "toothfairy") a legal way for GC refugees to find restitution? What does the ROC government do then?

It looks like Turkeys EU accession chapters will just move on without the closing of the chapters with reference to customs agreements and anything to do with Cyprus. So in essence going down the EU route has achieved what for GC's? To date......................nothing! The ROC government has gambled, a bit like covering red and black on a roulette wheel, its just a pity that the ball looks like dropping in the green zero. But of course in typical Cypriot fashion the denounce everyone involved in the decisions and blame the EU, China, Britain, America, the French, the Germans and anyone else they feel like.

What is for sure is that RoC will have to take something in return if it is going to allow softer measures against Turkey. One of the things RoC will probably get is an end to any kind of discussion regarding the lifting of the "isolation" and all that

Piratis

The ROC may very well get something in return for allowing softer measures, it may be in the form of EU grants and investment. But what have the ROC gained directly from Turkey in all of this? The "isolation" discussion will not just go away. Please don't forget that the EU promised the TC's and an end to isolation as a reward for voting yes. There may very well be something happening with this as the GC's have been rewarded by the the EU with accession to the Union. A possible scenario could be along the lines of what Turkey proposed almost a year ago which was lift isolation of TC's and we open our airports and sea ports to ROC traffic. Please dont forget that one of these was promised and the other is obliged to.

Pauul 12 and BTURK , two perfect examples of bloody foreigners having the audacity to offer nonconstructive views on the Cyprus problem , there again through out our long history it has been an endemic problem , foreigners flying f..ng foreign flags telling the Cypriots what is good for them , well let me tell them what is also good for them . Clear off you bloody interfering foreign gids, Cyprus is an independent nation known through out the world as Cyprus not f..ng Greek or f..ng Turkish.

I am afraid if the RoC has put all her eggs in one basket, she will be terribly disappointed.
The EU will never put the interests of global capitalism below the interests of Cyprus. They are using Cyprus to get the best deal for themselves to have access to Turkey's strategic position and her market of 70 Million consumers. I hope Tpap has a B plan to solve the Cyprus problem, otherwise we'll be here arguing till the cows come home...sometime in the next millenium. :(
