Information on villages

Postby Baggieboy » Mon Dec 04, 2006 7:43 pm

Hello all,

Thinking about doing some agrotourism (no - its not fighting on holiday!)next year and would really appreciate some advice.

We've done it before on the west side in Kathikas, but it was a bit remote, with few facilities. As we don't drive it was quite expensive to get anywhere (yes, I know we were avoiding the touristy areas, but still needed to get around and get provisions). £20 to Pafos each way made quite a hole in our funds. Anyway, this time we're looking at the Larnaca options.

Ideally, we're looking either for a village which has good facilities (tavernas, shops, cashpoint(?), etc), or one that isn't too far from a larger village which could provide them.

The options I've found are: Tochni, Kalavassos, Agioi Vavatsinias, Scarinou and Psematismenos (hope the spelling's OK!)

I know its cheating really - getting away from it all, while still wanting some home comforts, but if anyone could provide some info on any of the villages mentioned we'd be really grateful.

regards,

Richie

I had friends who went to Kalavassos last summer through Cyplon and Cyprus Village. They had a wonderful time and found it very good for getting around. A car was included in their deal.

My sister loves Vavatsinias. PM Bungle.

Tochni is a lovely village and pretty central if you do fancy heading into civilisation.

I have some friends that have roots from Vavatsinia(Agious Vavatsinias). Two different families btw, not only one. They all say it's a nice village, but I've never been there. My grandfather was from Kato Drys, but it was very poor the last time I went(some 10 years ago) I have no idea if it has been developed, but I think big money is spent these days for property there.

Hi Baggieboy, I take it you have visited the general website for Agrotourism in Cyprus? http://www.agrotourism.com.cy/

It has lots of info about the villages and each single house.

Furthermore here is a list of all villages in Cyprus that have their own website http://www.cyprus-government.com/index. ... dom_id=663

That will provide for more detailed info (at least in some cases as not all sites are up-to-date).

Kato Drys is very nice. The developments are so low key that they blend in with the rest of the village. These villages are great to drive through. You get a real taste of how life was before the main roads and supermarkets took over.
