Cyprus pollutes!

Amongst the E. Mediterranean countries, Cyprus comes out badly in the pollution index, particularly in terms of CO2 emissions. A per capita 10+ tonnes p.a., is enormous. You and I are contributing 40-50% more to climate change than our W. European counterparts, even though we are less industrialised.

i think vehicles contribute to most of the emissions. almost everyone in cyprus drives a car.

people should seriously think about walking or cycling short distances. it is good for the environment and also the health.

Unless adequate public transport is provided, things will get worse. I travel to Limassol from Larnaca everyday to work. Only way of getting there is by car.

Every day I see cars on the highway that should have been destroyed years ago, smoke coming out choking everyone. The drivers of these cars probably can't afford to have them repaired, probably can't afford to buy a new one, but more importantly, due to the lack of public transport, they rely on these cars to help them get to work to be able to feed their families.

Can't see things improving in the near future I'm afraid.

Doesnt tell the whole story really, as cyprus has such a small population...

figures are distored when the entire population of the island is less than london, of which a great proportion use tube and bus...

;)
