Turkey wrote the Annan Plan....

I know this is not news but it's the first time I've seen them admit it :P

In this article today the wonderful FT suggests bending Cyprus over and rogering it with a Turkey for the good of EU Strategy....
FT Leader wrote: The Cyprus issue can be resolved if member states are prepared to put the strategic interests of the Union above the narrow interests of the Nicosia government.

Eracles,

Did you not think for one minute that 'we' means those who were involved in the negotiations, including representatives from your community?

This is no scoop, this is imagination running wild.

Eracles,
A balanced and fair article accurately setting out the position. Obviously English isnt a language you are too familair with. No wonder we will never get anywhere with the Cyprus problem.

C'mon guys, the only way we will get a solution is by letting the big powers decide - that's the way it's always been for Cyprus since time began, Cypriots, whether Greek or Turkish don't count for shit except for being used as pawns in someone else's game.
And Issy1956, fair and balanced in your view, but not in mine. A lot of press lately refers to naughty little cyprus causing problems for big turkey. Reminds me of the old 'Cyprus is a flea' statement by Lyndon in the 60's where Cyprus can expect to be "whacked by the elephant's trunk, whacked good...."

In bold below, latest news from SABAH, why keep referring to Cyprus as tiny?

Cyprus quarrel with the EU

EU Commissioner Jose Manuel Barroso said they think 'Turkey did not meet the obligations.' Infuriated by his statement Grand National Assembly of Turkey President Arınç responded Barroso.

Arınç said: "EU is being taken in pledge by the South Cyprus Government. Turkey is not a negotiation country to be forced to sacrifice itself. The decision of the EU commission has injured Turkish people's feelings. A tiny country like South Cyprus . has almost taken the EU in pledge. EU has made a historical mistake by accepting South Cyprus as a member

Eracles,

It's too late to complain about non-Cypriot's being involved in constitutional issues. We lost the opportunity to regard ourselves as Cypriot's first when your compatriots sought union with Greece, thereby bringing about a chain of events that took Turkey into the equation.

They are involved in whatever way they want and since Papadopoulos and RoC go to great lengths to disregard TC's and TRNC as an entity you legitamise Turkey continuing to be involved. And even before Makarios recognised thtat the UN had to be involved. Now you join the EU they are part of the equation too. No point being bitter about it, it's jsut the way it is.

The island is Greek whether you like it or not... The Greek language remained for 3000 years, and it's no coincidence. The population may be a "bastard" race, but it's still Greek speaking, therefore legally Greek. If 80% of the population wanted to be merged with a stronger country of the same people, then what's your problem? You had the opportunity by the UK and UN to leave to Turkey or any country a number of times in the 20th century, since you didn't like the "Greekness" of Cyprus. Nobody invited you in Cyprus, you are simply the children of violators, and the Cypriots have accepted your existence, and all you do is say that Turkey acted as a hero when it invaded in 1974... And now you even have doubts that the Annan plan had Turkey written all over it. (Papadopoulos didn't/couldn't do anything to make the plan in Cyprus' favour, so it was a great deal of pro-Turkish...)
