I have never just boiled it. I make it with meat with no fat at all, and lots of Onions, Diced can of Tomatoes, Lemon Juice, and lots and lots of Virgin Olive Oil, and let it simmer for 4-5 hours. You can smell the aroma from a block away. It actually tastes better, the next day.

Obviously you cant eat it just boiled, I was replying to andy_cy :)

You'd never grow molohiya in places where animals can urinate, the same with any other food. Our molohiya is grown around orange trees.

Since we're on this topic, are there many carob trees in the south?

It is boiled but as with everything there are a number of different ways of cooking it, I presonally like it when its cooked with small pieces of meat, tomatoes and lemon..

.

@Andri_cy,

I use to take Molohiya with me to the States in my suit case, and even mentioned it on my customs form, and the custom officers would take one look at it and let me go on my way. I was never sure if they knew what it was, or they thought, hey, if you want to eat that stuff, be our guest. I was always concerned, that it might be mistaken for "weed", if you know what I mean.

It is oddly enough one of the things I miss very often. I wish I could get my hands on some... :(
