EOKA, terrorist organization or freedom fighters?
neither the one nor the other.
they are both nothing more than emotional definitions, and do not help us at all undesrtand eoka
I know some so called 'traitors' were killed by EOKA, but why were Turkish Cypriots killed for being traitors when they were not even involved in the EOKA campaign?
there is not "one reason" why eoka attacked tcs.
first the leader of eoka was not only a fascist but also stupid to understand why tcs shouldnot be attacked
second, tcs (since we didnt get them to join us) joined the british police. one can accuse the british or the tcs, but no matter what the case was, the two groups were working against each other (eoka and police) , and death was inevitable
third, the majority of tcs killed were policemen
fourth, in the beggining eoka didnot attack tcs. the majority of attacks happenned after 1957 for a number of reasons (first bicomunal clashes, creation of TMT , makarios in exile - leaving the leadership of the struggle to a person who hat as much political IQ as a potato ...).
I've heard that the majority of TC's killed by EOKA were members of the British police force, is this correct?
yes
I've also read that the majority of people killed by EOKA were GC's?
also true
If so why did EOKA receive so much support and in what circumstances did these people get killed in?
perhaps eoka didnot receive as much support as we like to think today.
but it is true, that the majority of gcs supported eoka....depending ofcource what "support" means
For being so called traitors? Or because they were caught up in the bomb blasts?
when history reaches the point where some people have guns and some others have not, then the ones who have can kill for a number of different reasons.
I think I've just realized just how complicated EOKA actually is....
precisely !
thats why the dilemma "terrorists" vs "freedom fighters" will not add to your understandinf but simply create another futile debate between gc and tcs
