Regardless of what the 'ordinary people' of Cyprus may think, the issues you seek to research have been a bone of contention for decades, such is the situation created by political maneuvering I doubt if you will be able to contribute any constructive suggestions. Among the many thousands of comments made by the indigenous population of Cyprus (plus the sons and daughters of these) there never was a serious community problem, only when Cyprus became a political pawn did problems arise. Religious differences have always been used as the excuse by politicians to create discontent and disharmony among the 'ordinary people' before they wage war on them, look for the hidden agendas and invariably you will find that there is some strategic or monetary reason behind the conflicts, Cyprus is an obvious example. The fact that the situation here has been allowed to remain as it is for so long is proof-positive that that is how the politicians prefer it.

Are they paid by the Americans too?

perhaps...for the cypriots...
but the fact is that these groups , like workers democracy , anatropi , indymedia (indimedya is a world wide left wink online forum. it exists in a number of languages) , are groups that demonstrate often against the americans , and the have also organised events showing documentaries about quantanamo , iraq , lebanon etc....
ofcource that doesnt really count bc...well bicommunal events are suspicious and their finances should be checked , bc they might be paid from the americans

Hej Martin!

Postby Mus » Tue Dec 05, 2006 12:50 pm

PS: Sorry, guy, that was in Danish if you're wondering...

heres a bicommunal event for you :

On Wednesday, 5.00 pm:

Anti-fascist protest - Wednesday 6 December, 17:00pm at Eleftheria Sq.

The organized attack by a fascist gang against Turkish Cypriot students in English School was neither an isolated incident nor the work of brainless criminals. We cannot remain passive and just ignore such incident. The fascist provocation has to be answered.

Stop the War Coalition-Cy , the bi-communal platform of organizations and activists, calls for an anti-fascist protest on WEDNESDAY 6 December, 17:00pm at Eleftheria Sq. and march through the nearby commercial streets.

Ô he demonstration is supported by the following organizations: Workers Democracy, Green Party, Federation of Environ.&Ecological Organizations, Anatropi Magazine, ONED, Cyprus Indymedia , ÕÊÑ Youth (New Cyprus Party), Baraka Cultural Centre, Hands Across Divide, POST Research Institute.

Guys, there are rules that say you should only post in english or post a foreign language passage with a translation. Please do try to fo llow them. If everyone started posting in their own language this would be utter chaos. We all want in on the joke...

I'm glad cause thats not my plan. I'm merely here to describe the situation best possibly, not to come up with any constructive suggestions of solving the conflict.
