Its been happening for years, not just in Cyprus, all over the world...

Its about time they think about the consequences of things they do...

I for one have brought my children up to respect all cultures. I sincerely hope that when they live in Cyprus they are not encouraged to hate the Turkish people and ruin everything I have taught them about being open minded and that all people are equal.

In fact they love Turkey and after many experiences there we believe the people are warm and friendly.

It is not the Turkish or Greek people who created problems - it was the egotistical 'people in power'.

Let us all learn from the innocence of youth!

Strahd , .......
"""Your nationalism is better than the Greek or the Turkish nationalism! !!

You bet ! I'm one who has seen the light !! Nationalistic tendencies directed towards foreign nations are futile , damaging and a waste of time , I wish the St. Nicholas church in Limassol would do us the honour of flying our Cypriot flag not the flag of a foreign nation . Had words with the priest during my last visit , waste of time .

Sotos, my friend, that is exactly the problem....what some parents are teaching the children....

I wonder sometimes what if the leaders of EOKA and the leaders of TMT, if their parents taught them to respect all people as equals, not just the greeks or the turks...then how would our island be this day?

maybe we wouldn't all be in foreign countries hoping that one day there will be a solution, but instead living as next door neighbours, or at the kafeneion playing tavli together, or at the taverna singing greek and turkish songs together dancing the sirto and cifte telli

there have been injustices on both sides...but maybe if we forgot about the injustices in the past, then we could actually END the injustices by knocking down that fence that seperates us, standing together, and saying WE ARE THE FREE PEOPLE OF CYPRUS! WE ARE CYPRIOTS!

but as long as we are constantly looking at each other and asking to be 'compensated' for the past injustices, we will never get there...

give me the Republic of Cyprus exactly the way it was given to us along with our freedom in 1960 and i will give you my heart

but no, the greedy politicians find it more convenient to ask for more...

result of our education ? !!!!

Result of my personal experience.

The "all" generalization was said to piss Gorilla girl a bit. Still it is a fact, that the great majority of Americans are clueless when it comes to anything outside their country which they consider to be the whole world. Sad but true.

I am afraid that on a large scale, Piratis is right on this one. Most Americans have no idea where other countries are, what problems there are in the world, unless they are involved in them. I live here, I am married to one and love the people, but their ignorance is their bliss. They think the world begins and ends with them.

GorillaGal said a mouthful when she indicated that there was less corruption in her beloved country, I wonder if she has read the history of it, perhaps a good book to start with would be 'Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee' by Dee Brown, she could then move on to all the political scenarios from that time up to the present, America has probably evolved corruptly more than any other nation on the face of the earth, even though it has possibly the shortest history, a few hours reading should be sufficient. :) :) :) :) :)
