Average Cost of Living in Southern Cyprus

Postby amlek » Sun Nov 26, 2006 8:09 am

I would be really grateful if people could give some up-to-date information about general monthly costs of living in southern Cyprus - Prices on everyday food items, eating out, petrol, utilities, Internet etc, etc.

We a British couple who have been living & working in Thailand for the past 5 years, but are planning a move back to Europe next year - to either Cyprus or Southern Spain (a warm climate plays an important factor in our decision making since we're now so acclimatised to tropical living :D) . Obviously living costs in Asia are very different from those in Europe, & we're a bit out of touch - so any information from those of you permanently resident there would be much appreciated to aid with budget planning.

We would also appreciate suggestions for suitable areas to explore as possibilities for basing ourselves. As most of our businesses rely heavily on access to the internet we need a good infrastructure, but would prefer to live in a peaceful location away from the tourist masses.

Many thanks.

Prices on everyday food items, eating out, petrol, utilities, Internet etc, etc.

Cyprus is not cheap on products but some services are cheap compared to western Europe.

From Supermarket:
1L milk - 63 cents
1.5L Bottled Water x 6 - 1.75 pounds
Average size Chicken - 3 pounds
500g Pasta - 35 cents

Eating Out:
McDonald's meal - 3 pounds
Pizza Hut Large Pizza - 7 pounds
Good Restaurant - 8-15 pounds per person

1L Petrol - 50c

1Mbit Internet - 15 pounds/month
Telephone connection - 8 pounds/month
