Do NOT buy camcorders from the US. They are NTSC, whereas everything here is PAL. The two systems are incompatible.
Be aware, also, that a digital camcorder imported from outside the EU is taxed as a video recorder if it has the video-in function. The tax is ~two times higher than one without the video-in function. And most modern ones do have it!
