Postby AL » Sat Nov 18, 2006 8:20 pm

:?: Please can anyone help? I,ve just bought my new home in Cyprus and I,m looking to furnish it when I come over in january.
I need some advice on where the best shops and best deals are.
I heard there was an IKEA, is that true or just a wind up.

I don't think IKEA is open yet, but one shop that I will recommend is ID Design in Larnaca. Whatever you spend in there, you get that amount for free on anything in the shop, so if you bought a couch with a couple of armchairs for £600, you get to spend another £600 on anything you want in that shop!

Gawd if IKEA rates as a good furniture store .... we are doomed! sorry for being cynicle but the stuff are made from "fake timber". On the otherhand I hear that in Ayia Marina Xyliatos (apprx 35 km's west of Nicosia) there's a guy who still makes furnitut=re by hand.

Yeah IKEA always looks like stuff from Butlins. Basically simple shapes made out of cheap wood in the colours of the rainbow. On the other hand I bought some good bookshelves at a store in London once. Plus they tend to have places to eat that are straight out of school...

Cheers

I have it on good authority, from my Bank Manager, who lives alongside it, that IKEA is definitely being built in Nicosia and has been for some time but they have a Permit problem to sort out and although hoped to be open in Jan 07 are now predicting late Spring, some are saying Summer on this board but don't know where that info comes from.

I am going to look into getting what I want at Ikea, Athens and getting them to deliver it to the Pireus docks where I can get it freighted across to Cyprus, there is some good quality stuff at IKEA and very robust if you know what you are looking for - and yes some of it is Real Wood, if it's wood you want.

I believe there is a Habitat in Nicosia and there are a number of furniture stores and carpenters in the Cash and Carry area of Limassol.

I know this coz I'm planning for our move.

Ikea is world famous for new home starter. their prices are right, that is if Cyprus sticks to the suggested pricing.
The founder must be doing something right, he is the latest richest man in the world.

Their basement , kitchen, glass , lighting and misc. items are a great deal and great quality, you cant beat that.

Its not for everyone, as for the meatballls, they are not bad love the sauce that comes with it some sort of logan berry or something, anyone know exactly what the berry's are?
