I think if you ask anyone in your community over a certain age they will inform you that most Turkish Cypriots did speak Greek as well, if not better, as Turkish. Most Turkish Cypriots I know who lived in Cyprus before 1974 are certainly bi-lingual. Not so much happened in reverse but I understand that and don't have an issue about it. Both our languages are influenced by our proximity to each other and I remeber other threads on this topic over a year ago.

But guess what? When we don't see each other we speak each others languages less. And then it's the same as learning a foreign language (i.e. English, French) rather than a language that is alive in your own country.

I said to the above person that started this thread, that we have way too many, far more important issues to resolve, in relation to the Cyprus problem, than to instead be wasting our times with such an irrelevant and insignificant issue.

“Afisame to gamo kai pame gia pournaria,” means “we ended up the wedding party before its time, so that we go and start picking up acorns!”

So language is not an important aspect of a country? After history, it's the most important in my opinion...

If you talk of "peace"(i think we are at peace time but anyway), then how can you neglect the language barrier which is obvious!!!?!?!

countries can have more than one language. Cyprus is not the only one.

Everybody is free to speak any language, have any religion and have the freedom of doing whatever as long as what is done is allowed by the laws of the country. (which laws should be created based on the principles of democracy and human rights).

Klik, do you know what it means "vraki den eixe i Mariori, o feretzes tis eleipe?" Did you solve the property issue, the refugees issue, the power sharing and the constitutional issue, the territorial issue, the security and foreign troop’s issue, and all the rest, and the only thing left is what language the country will speak? The EU has 22 languages, and it can manage. Why can we not manage with two official languages? Belgium has 3, Switzerland has 4, and they still manage.

If you go to the USA, you speak English, the US language...

Tell that to the people who move here from Mexico. The US has a second language now and it is Spanish. Some places you go to if you don't speak Spanish you are screwed. You need to check your facts a little more closely.

I would have thought it better as:-

"αφήσαμε έτσι το γάμο πριν από το χρόνο της, πηγαίνουμε και συλλέγουμε τα βελανίδια"

Σκέφτεστε έτσι
