I have an unused terrace next to a bedroom, my wife wants me to build an en-suite bathroom on this terrace.

Does anybody know if I will need planning permission for this structure.

P.S. My house is detached, unoverlooked and in a mountain village (if any of that is relevent).

Any information would be gratefully received.

The strict answre is YES, you need Planning Permission for any external change to your property. In reality, if you have the Title Deeds to your property it is not necessary as the Authorities will never check - unless you upset a neighbour!

Oh Dear, if planning permission takes as long as everything else here i probably won't live long enough to use the bathroom.

Hi Mountainman,

Getting permission fromthe town Planning Authority doesn't take too long. We got ours for the whole house in under 3 months.
