Unique-earthling is it possible to get a 'proper' job out there in the dogs homes or is it all voluntary and part time?

My daughter who will be nearly 14 when we move to Limassol in July is really keen to help voluntarily at an animal shelter.

Is this realistic and can you suggest any places she could go to? There seems to be a shelter at the British Forces Base in Episkopi which is asking for volunteers but she may be too young?

Thanks

There are no bad dogs sotos only bad owners

But this topic is about stray cats and dogs. I was talking about stray dogs. A stray cat can keep herself clean, they dig in the ground to shit and they will not attack humans. A stary cat is not a problem. A stray dog is a problem for the reasons I said already. And some kinds of dogs are very dangerous like pitbull or doperman. Some other ones can also be dangerous.

Niki 14 is a bit young, but at the shelter i work for is always happy to have interested children to help out. Infact i have one who comes every sunday she wants to be a vet some day.. but i dont know about other places. I think when you move out here take a look around and make some enquiries. There are many opportunities in this kind of work. Cyprus is the kind of place where you learn when you get here.. Let me know when your here and we can communicate then..

I have a proper job, its paid but then it has to be, you cant have volunteers in prominant positions, supposing they decide they feel a bit off colour or have a pressing engagement, dogs cant look after themselves.. We do however have some volunteers that walk dogs, but it does take a real commitment to clean up poop and pee, and groom on a regular basis, i have found that many cant take the reality of the work.. mopping floors walls and the overwhelming extent of the problem.. its hands on and basic.. But anyone is welcome..

dangerous and dirty sotos??? where did you learn that?

 Ok. dogs never bite. That friend of mine that got beaten by a dog was imaginary. some kinds of dogs can be very dangerous. A dog can be kept clean by humans but they are not a clean animal by nature. What I say is the truth so don't teach me.

In the news today

A three-year-old girl is in a poorly condition in Birmingham Children's Hospital after being attacked by a Dobermann dog.

The incident happened in Claverdon, near Warwick, this afternoon and police say the dog belonged to a member of the girl's family.

It is understood she suffered serious neck and facial injuries and she was airlifted to the Heartlands Hospital, before being transferred to Birmingham Children's Hospital later in the evening.

Inspector Rupert Atkinson, who was called to the scene, described the events as a tragedy for the family.
