Dog Breeders

Postby Steve 1947 » Wed Nov 08, 2006 6:22 pm

Does anyone know, or can point me in the right direction, of a Miniature Pinscher dog breeder in Cyprus - pedigree papers NOT neccessary - it is to be a pet, not for showing.
They are fairly common in Cyprus, but, I can't find any breeders on the internet.
The local vet has reccommended me two breeders in Paralimni where I live, but, nothing available, so I need to look further afield. I have already tried the avenues of Dog Rescue Homes etc. I want to book now for collection sometime after Xmas, so, a very young litter, or an expectant Mum would be fine. Ideally I would like one about 8 to 12 weeks old after Xmas as I am back doing my National Service in the UK - ( family duties :? ) over the festive period - Bah - Humbug
Can someone kindly suggest a breeder if they know of one, or, any other suggestions of how I could investigate or search would be welcome.
Thanks,
Steve

Hi Steve sorry i cant help you there and please dont expect the cypriots on here to help or even reply, one thing that is lacking here is warmth and care, especially where animals are concerned, they dont like the english much and i see you got better replies elsewhere..i have a rescued min pin and he is adorable. This is my alfie boy alias fat boy cant slim. good luck in your search.

Thanks - he looks a beauty :)
I am visiting the Nicosia rescue home next week - they have a couple of adult Min Pins apparently - so, maybe I will be lucky.
I know there is always a bit of a risk with adults, as they can be harder to break of bad habits if they have been ill treated or allowed to go untrained, but, equally, one can be lucky, and find one who has already been house and collar trained, etc.
There are pros and cons to both pups and adults.
Equally, it may be that the Rescue Home will have pups available after Xmas, when so many are discarded after the Christmas novelty drops off, and, the responsibilities of ownership begin to kick in,
We shall see,
Steve

Are there many places for homeless dogs in Cyprus? We are relocating in 2008 and want another dog. We had two but unfortunately lost the one in June and haven't replaced her as we thought we would wait until we moved then get one then if we could. When we were over there a lady said there wasn't that many dogs in homes now because us English have moved over there and had most of them. Is this the case or are there quite a few places where you can get them or would we need to go to a breeder? Silly question I know, but what breeds of dog are common over there, I know there are restrictions on the ones you can bring in. We have a Springer and love the breed, she was from a home, but would welcome giving any doggy a home, just wondered what sort there were and if there were any Springers about?

Hi Dee,
Not seen any Springers about, but, maybe I've simply not noticed.
I am going to the Nicosia Rescue Home today, so, I will ask there and let you know.
Regards
Steve

DeeDee where are you going to be living? in our shelter we have everything feom akitas, springers, boxers, huskies, british bull terrier, Hungarian Kuvac, Cao de fila, border collies, pekes, poodles, terriers, mixed, roti's, greyhounds, setters...in fact you name it we have it or had it at some point.. We dont rehome to everyone, as we dont want to put them back in a bad situation, but those that understand animals and love them and want them as pets and can offer them what they need have a good chance. Hunters we dont rehome for hunting. And adult huskies we dont either as they are not bred to be loyal and extremely difficult to train as they are bred to make their own decisions, they mush and have to decide the safest route so this makes them difficult to train, unless you are an experienced handler. Their diet is also different. When you think they can eat frozen fish. Blah!! Anyway DeeDee come and visit us in Paphos..

sorry just reread what you typed..

When we were over there a lady said there wasn't that many dogs in homes now because us English have moved over there and had most of them.

I nearly choked on my dinner then, do you know Cyprus per capita has the worst proplem for unwanted dogs, the shelter get 70 a week in, that woman must have been talking out of her bs... Sorry but where she got that info from hadnt been to paphos recently.. there are huge shed loads of unwanted dogs all round Cyprus. Come and see me i will prove it to you... i have all the info on the shelters in Cyprus and statistics.

Hi Dee,
I spoke with Sharon at Nicosia Rescue Home - she says they do have Springers in quite often - her number in Cyprus is 99868512.
You will find more information on the Nicosia Dog Shelter website - link below.

Yes, what is with Cypriots and pets, they don't keep them and certaily don't really care much about them let alone treat them as one of the family. Woof! Woof! Woof!
