Hi. I am new to this site but have glanced through and you all seem to give good, honest advice so I was hoping you could help me. I have been visiting Cyprus for about 8 years now (mainly Paphos) and I have decided to move and see if it is for me. I have a house in GB which I will rent out and I am prepared to rent long-term in Cyprus to "try before I buy". However, I have a son of 7 and I don't seem to be able to find any information on enrolling in schools or what schools are like. For example, are state schools OK for English children or what private schools are good?
I am still undecided on a definate area to go to as long as it is the south and would welcome any advice. Thanks. :)

State schools are OK but your son will need to learn Greek. I don't think he can start from 2nd class without knowing any Greek. And the school year started already. I don't know if you can enroll him in the middle of the year. Maybe a private English school would be better for him. About the area I suggest Limassol. Paphos is just for tourists and old people. Nicosia has no sea (so whats the point?). Larnaca is OK, but the best is Limassol.

Hi Lou1

Try http://cyprus.angloinfo.com/af/250/cypr ... oling.html

or www.cypruseducation.com

My daughters will be going to Heritage english school in Limassol from next September.

There are a couple of English Curriculum schools in Pahos (American Academy is one I believe) but more choice in Limassol (Foleys, Heritage, American Academy, St Mary's, Logo's, The Grammar School......). If you search for posts on schools on this forum you will find comments about most of these.

The fees are a quarter of UK private schools and as they are English Curriculum the children at least have some familiarity. Make an appointent to see a few.

On the other hand when children enrol at local Cypriot schools they have an intensive course on the Greek language which is a good way to learn - it's a personal choice!
