Breast Cancer

Postby deedeepuss » Mon Oct 30, 2006 8:43 pm

Hi

Has anyone any experience or know of anyone who has been treated for Breast Cancer in Cyprus? If anyone can help I am trying to find out what sort of treatment was available, where the hospitals are for treatment, and what check ups they do. Over here they only do a yearly mammogram, but I have heard that in Spain they do annual ultra sounds and scans, and was wondering what they do over there. Also would it be difficult to have a private health care plan with a history of BC.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

You mean what they do for free in hospitals or if you pay?

A few women in my family actually have had breast cancer which scares me to death. Both my grandmothers had a complete mastectomy while my aunt had a partial. MY mom had to remove only a small piece since she caught it pretty early. They all went top the hospital in Limassol. They do mammograms there or used to. Dont know nowadays. Good Luck.

Having worked as a nurse for 27yrs, l came to Cyprus hoping to carry on my profession, a highly qualified nurse.
l managed 6 shifts in one clinic and 8 in another, l will never nurse here again. lt's a money making machine.
the Dr's are Jack of all trades master of none.
I am in touch with the Cancer Society in Limassol, and the hospital in Nicosia has a very good reputation in Oncology.
My advice to you is give the private money making clinics a miss and go to the state hospital where you will get proper treatment.
Good luck Caroline

Dee, lots of the private hospitals don't have the required equipment and when push comes to shove, they ship you to the state hospitals. Why not go there to begin with? At least you know those doctors there, get paid no matter what so they wont treat you one way or another for the money.

Also Dee,
if you go private and the clinic sends you to the State hospital for scans ect, you are still charged for any treatment.
Once private you remain that way..................

There is a lady who runs a deli in Paphos called "Gina's". I have her address somewhere if you cannot get it. In the last year she has done loads of charity work in Cyprus to raise the profile of breast cancer. I am sure she would be able to point you in the right direction.

Hi

Thanks for the info, it sounds like going the state route is preferential if need be. I am hoping not to need either state or private but it's best to check before we move out. I am one year 6 months clear, and just have an annual mammogram so as long as I can continue with that I will be happy. I would appreciate any details on Gina for a contact for when we move out, if she would be happy to be contacted.

Thanks Dee
