House payment/solicitors/interest

Postby bigtrees » Sat Oct 28, 2006 8:30 pm

I hope this is not a stupid question as it may have been covered elsewhere.

In Cyprus when you make the payment to the solicitor for a house, if he holds the money for any length of time do you receive the interest that it would make or does that go the solicitor??

I do not think you will get interest; it is normally kept in a non-interest earning Client account.

Your right Lana. Ours was kept in a non interest earning client account for 3 months. Seems a waste really, as we could have kept it in our Cypriot account, earning interest. Doh!!!

Thanks for replies. That`s what I thought really, about it being in a client account, but I`m hoping that it won`t take 3 months !!! I begrudge it not earning interest, but by buying it at a higher rate I suppose the gain is there. A bit of a catch 22 situation.

Instead of moving the money early try getting a quote from someone like HIFX PLC in Windsor who will quote you a rate for the date you wish to move the money......it may be better than you think and if I am not mistaken there are no sending or receiving charges. Their number is: 00 44 753 859159 or see the web site. www.hifx.co.uk I have used them in the past and they are very very efficient and trustworthy.

To be honest I have not been on the net much either.

And watch out I will be in Paphos much more in the coming months. You can buy me that coffee you keep promising.

Hello hincyprus, haven't heard from you before but just read the message that you suffered a heart attack. Hope all is well now and you are on the mend. Take things easy and chill out.

Hincyprus

Thanks for your advice, but we have already purchased the currency although not moved it yet.

Sorry to hear of your ill-health- one of the reasons for our move to Cyprus.
