what do greeks really think of Cypriots

Feel free to talk about anything that you want.

You guys really don't have a clue, do you?!?
When I was a university student in Piraeus, out of the 100 students 10 were Cypriots (that had their seats reserved, but that's another issue). Guess how well they interacted with the rest of their class? Wrong, they didn't interact AT ALL. Nobody looked down on them, people tried to be friendly with them. You know what they did? They formed a clique, they wouldn't go near any Greek student and they only spoke to each other in an almost conspirant way. I did't know why they behaved this way, what they were told about Greeks by their family, but they were just RUDE to say the least. I however was able to break the ice with one of them. We became friends, and when the others realized that, they just kicked him out of their clique.
THAT's the impression that Greece Greeks have of you. They don't hate you, they have nothing against you, it's your behaviour that makes others look down on you. Sure, many made fun of their Cypriot accent, but those that did were the same that made fun of Cretan, Macedonian or Rhodian accent too.

That is why I feel that this Greek Cypriot / Turkish Cypriot is not a good thing for Cyprus or Cypriots. All UNITED we can call ourselves Cypriots.

Cyprus needs more people like you.

My hubby is Greek and he gets annoyed when Cypriots treat him like a foreigner yet want to be Greeks themselves. It's changed alot over the past few years, but there is still the divide in certain circles. As for the Cypriots in Greece, you can spot them a mile off in Athens, charging down Ermou, in and out of all of the shops and shouting down their mobile phones "Reh, kombareh...."

allow me to say that this is true.
cypriots do that in all universities they study.
and this is the prime reason, why they study abroad and they hardly ever change their attitudes. ofcource they receive a degree but a real benefit in their way of thinking is absolutely not possible, precisely bc of this attitude

Is it only university students that behave like that?

There is no greek mocking word for "Cypriot", but what about "Kalamaras"?

Kolokyprioi, Chazokoumparoi, etc! At least Kalamarades is not so derogatory (in fact it is not derogatory at all,) in comparison to those used to point to Cypriots.

What?!? Have you actually heard anyone saying Chazokoumparoi? Because I am Greek and I never did! As for the "Kolokyprioi", anyone can say "koloathinaioi", "kolokritikoi" or even "koloellines", as Savvopoulos once said. It's not a word invented to mock Cypriots, the "kolo" epithet can come before any word

The word "Kalamarades" may not had been derogatory when it first appeared (actually it's an insult to Cypriots rather than to Greece Greeks) but it is definately used as such nowadays.
Actually noone in Cyprus says "ellines" or "elladites" anymore, just "Kalamarades"
