Good Health Food Shops in Cyprus

Postby bungle » Wed Oct 25, 2006 8:24 pm

I've been living in Cyprus now for little over a year and have in that time been on the look out for good organic health food shops that also stock Japanese foods!

I've now visited a few and thought I would share my thoughts so that any of you out there who want to purchase these types of goods etc will have an idea of what you can get and where.

My favourite is Zitrone (365 St Andrews St, Nr Municipal Gdns in Limassol) this is run by a lovely lady who moved back here from Germany, so speaks English, Cypriot and German. They have a huge selection of fresh and dried organic produce, even locally made fresh tofu! They had a good Japanese section too with everything from Nori to Wasabi. There is also a fresh food area and wonderful breads. It really does stock everything right down to organic hair colourant! They also have food demonstrations every so often, you can register with them for email notifications of event.

Doctor of Nature (4a Marathonos St, Makedonitissa & 44 Hakket St, Larnaca) are both fairly good outlets, although they don't have a huge selection. Nicosia is better than the Larnaca branch, where they do have a brighter airer shop. Both have a good range of imported produce, not much fresh stuff though. I know they also have shops in Limassol and Paphos but I have not visited these.

There is also a shop called An Apple a Day in Limassol selling imported fresh fruit and veg and a couple of others in Nicosa - Organic Crops (Loucas Solomou) and Egeas Edesma Health Food Centre (couldn't find this one despite being given directions...)

Hope this helps any of you out there interested in organic health foods.
