We were paying more rates cos we are English, our Cypriot Neighbour pays half of what we do, when asked about this we were told we have a pool and our villa is worth more, well hello he lives in the same villa, with pool, that we do!!!! It is being assessed and we are awaiting the reply. I heard in Pegia they were also paying more as they were English, they now pay the same!!!!! this is Cyprus it goes on...

This is weird...

I never heard or seen something like this.
Did you check or compare your bill's statement about different rates ?

Hope you let us know what is the answer from ΑΗΚ/EAC

I think Susanbunny is referring to the house rates / council tax --

I've heard this has happened in some area's --I understand the thinking behind this is probably that they feel we can afford it

I actually pay £20 less than my Cypriot neighbours  as I'm not in Cyprus all the time and qualify for a discount :D .

It would be worth while for those of you that do not live in Cyprus all the time to enquire at the town hall for a discount -- I'm not saying you will get the discount but it's worth a try

I think £465 is an unbelievable amount to pay for two months electric-- as I stated in my previous post mine came to £78 for the last bill which included July and August and that was with the air con on most of the time and using a electric ceramic hob for the cooking.

If someone is paying that amount of money out every two months how on earth do they manage to live with the wages in Cyprus being so low.

I doubt if the cost of electric for the whole block of 12 flats where I live comes to that for two months.

but how on earth do I get a water bill for £100???

gosh you'd think all the neighbours came over for cold showers every day!!!!

Everbody thinks I dont wash at my house, I have never had a water bill over £6

I am not questioning that...

Sadly I'm connected to the main sewerage system and have to pay for the water used and pay for it's disposal which effectively doubles the cost plus having to pay the sewerage company £43 every year.

I think this is a absolute rip off  -- but as everybody else pays the same I have no choice but to pay up

yes I was on about rates, rubbish and lights. A neighbour down the hill has 2 beds no pool, and pays the same as us, so the differance in what your house is worth excuse did not wash, he is british, they said it must be a mistake but come on two mistakes in one road, we took it to the top....watch this space.

My Landladys bill for the house next door was over £700..

But I am lucky in that my company pay my utilities.. phew... but its left me less in reserve for winter heating bills... approx £300 every 6 weeks.. I am praying for a short winter

8) Are these ridiculous electricity bills scattered around cyprus or confined to a relatively small area/district??
