Electricity prices

Reading these posts about electricity bills is quite worrying. Does anyone know what the price per kilo Watt is in Cyprus?

In the UK, the price would be 9.02 + 5% so about 9.5 pence.

If the price was similar, then your £465 would buy you 534 UK pounds worth or 5580 kilo watts over say 61 days = 91 kilo watts a day or 3.8 kilo watts an hour. Thats an incredible amount - is it air conditioning?

Mine isn't A/C, I haven't had it on all summer. Definitely a big rise in prices. Cyprus Government will have to do something about wages, if this continues, methinks!!

My electric bill for the two worst months of summer was £78 -- and I thought that was a lot

Bearing in mind that that I'm all electric and I had one of my sons ( plus his girlfriend ) staying with me for three weeks during that time so the air con was hardly ever off I suppose I have got off lightly.

£465 seems to be way over the top --- I think a little investigation is called for.

One thing I would do is switch the main switch off in your house / flat and see if the meter is still moving --- It's not unknown for electric supplies to flats having been tampered with.

One point to mention -- a friend was receiving huge bills and often complained about this --- untill I realised he had his immersion heater on 24 hours a day --- he thought it was like the UK where there is a thermostat fitted to the hot water tank and reasoned that it would only switch in when the water was cold which sadly isn't the case on most hot water systems in Cyprus.

He was blissfuly unaware that he was trying to boil the water in the hot tank for about 6 months.
His bills came down to a more reasonable level after -- much to his relief

I have been using 2 air conditioners in my house, one in the evening, and one overnight... but I am not in my house constantly as I work abroad in egypt...

I dont have an immersion heater as my water is heated by Diesel Boiler..

I just cant see what has used so much electricity...

My landladies bill was over £700, she has complained and they are investigating, I shall be doing the same... Something is awry...

:(

We complained about our consumption and were advised to turn off main switch to flat then go check out our meter.. nothing was moving so we know no one else is tapping into our electric.. The immersion heater is off, the water pressure pump is off.. the air con is off.. and the washer cooker is only used when needed...
We have asked The Electric Authority of Cyprus to look into our situation and not to delay the investigation. I told them I will be calling every day until I get the answers I am requesting.. I'm sure they hate hearing from me!!
Oh well, i really don't care, i can't afford bills like these..

No "The Microphone" I didn't pay mine.. i complained to electric company and nothing was done.. it wasn't until a little cypriot man from the electric company knocked at my door demanding money or he would cut off power did we give in and pay a "portion" of the bill.. we always pay our bills on time but this time we were not.. we still have yet to pay in full what is owed as we are still investigating the case.. so no.. we do not deserve to be robbed.. I will not be put up with being ripped off nor should anyone else out there.
