Electric/Water Utilities transfer of name

Postby A&K Costa » Sun Oct 22, 2006 11:10 am

Hi,

Does anyone know the correct procedure for transferring the electric and water accounts from one name to another. We are due to complete the purchase of our house soon and want to transfer these utilities from the current owner to ours.

Cheers

No. This is a resale. We are buying the place from a English couple.

Surely this should be arranged by your lawyer?.... I am in the process of buying a resale and this is one of the things they are arranging, also setting up the direct debits and a bank account to pay them. All included in the bill.

For Electric you must go with the previous owners to the Electric Company and change name and address, at least that's what we had to do. As for water, you will go to your council office.. we didn't however buy off another, we are renting.. that's the process when renting.. otherwise talk to the estate agent who you bought off of.. that's their job, surely they have an aftersales department??

Hi A&K Costa

It will also help if you take your Title Deeds to the various offices.
