On Sunday it will be the elections for the new president of DIKO after Papadopoulos. I would prefer Karoyian. What do you think?

Karoyian is the proper man, for the wrong party. His opponents in his party have already raised a racist issue by referring to his armenian background. He is a dove in a lion den.

Karoyian has been with DIKO for decades and he held some of the most important positions in the party. In parliamentary elections he received most votes than any other DIKO candidate.

Nobody in DIKO was ever bothered with his background and the facts I mentioned above prove this. The only ones who say such things are people like Bananiot who want to portrait Greek Cypriots as racists, evil etc, fully aligning themselves with the Turkish propaganda that is looking for excuses for the occupation of our country.

I don't know who will be elected. I believe both candidates have their pluses and minuses. Karayian for example always thinks before saying something and he seems like one of the most honest politicians. His disadvantage is that he can be a bit too calm some times and he can sound boring. If I was a DIKO member I would vote for Karoyian, but I am not, so whatever the members of DIKO will choose with democratic procedures will be respected.

nothing to do with diko either, but for the sake of a better level on cyprus politics i also believe that karogian is a better choise. i really cannot see how any of the two could get more votes for diko.

MARIOS KAROYIAN - NEW DIKO LEADER

Marios Karoyian has been elected third President of the centre-right Democratic Party (DIKO), succeeding Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos who resigned from the post in August this year.

Congratulations to Karoyian for his election!

Karoyian will make a fine President . The fact that he is of Armenian descent is encouraging for all Cypriots . An Armenian Cypriot will have the credentials of a true Cypriot without the erroneously perceived attachments to the foreign nations that have contributed so much to the calamities that have afflicted our Island.

Imagine if Karoyian was not elected. Bananiot and his similars would have another "proof" of how "evil" Greek Cypriots are that could be used in promoting their Turkish propaganda.

Lets see how Karoyian will do. As I said above he is a good honest person, but I am not sure how he will be able to handle the snakes like Anastasiades of DISY.

Karoyian himself was very caustic (publicly, on tv Piratis) of the fact that his opponents in DIKO used racist tactics and also hit below the belt by proclaiming that he did not do national service. Piratis in effect has said that Karoyian did what Bananiot does, portraying the Greek Cypriots as racist so and so. Mikellides went one better, yesterday. Cypriots, he said, are basically donkeys.

P.S. Karoyian is miles better than Kleanthous. The fact that he was surrounded by the two Kyprianou sons (Marcos and Achilleas) at the announcement of the results, may mean a lot politically. Could it be that AKEL will find in Marcos the way out of the sinking Papadopoulos boat?
