Brainless.....

Somebody copied a credit card of one girl and withdrew money from her account. Cyprus Bank said that it is only mistake of ATM, don't worry. After week her flat has been burgled while she was sleeping. They took her bag with all documents, cards, etc. Before the bank has blocked the account she lost other money. Then bank said it was not mistake of ATM, it is her fault, she has given a PIN to third person, they told.
Police told her she lies because it is impossible to copy credit card and find PIN out and if bank said it is impossible it is true because the bank never lies. They solve this case at three police station because money was withdrew on three different places. When she was on police station she must wait till they finish their morning coffee and cigaret.
Can you tel me, is it possible to find any policeman or bank officer who has a brain?

Of course it was. I wanted to know if somebody agree with a claiming, that it is impossible to get money from account without having a original card, or if anyone has similar experience.

It is possible...When you go somewhere to pay for an item with a credit card, the cashier can swipe the card into a second machine which takes all of its details...This can then be printed onto another card (any card) in the form of the magnetic strip on the back...the cashier can see the pin being entered and remember it...after all, its only 4 digits...When you go to an ATM machine they still accept cards that do not have chip and pin...you enter the new fake card into the ATM, type in the pin and you have access to everything on the ATM

the bank was just trying to avoid paying the lady for the money that was fraudulently taken from her...However, they have fraud liability cover which means they are covered by insurance for any fraud.

lol...the good thing is, Cyprus has a low crime rate (or atleast it did until so many tourists started coming with their drugs and this and that)...Its unlikely to become a problem in Cyprus...

Kartal_Aetos:
In Czech Rep. they put a magnetic tape into ATM where you put the card and after your operation is finished all information from the card are recorded on the tape. Also they usualy stick small camera near the ATM to see your PIN or observe you through binocular, if it is possible.
I was very surprised that police doesn't know it or they only pretend they don't know it in order to avoid any work.
