To all my critics (thank-you to the well-wishers)
If you remember I posted an article a week ago under the title THE CYPRUS ISSUE: A BRITISH VIEW and six pages worth later from people with the unlikely names of Rawk and Zan, not forgetting Rolo, I must restate my birthright of being British (that’s for you Rawk- You must concede poetic licence whereby impassioned speeches don’t rely on punctuation).
All in all the responses were ‘same old, same old’ – the individual sniping
on issues that occurred in times past. The past hashed and reshashed rather than talking about the future. Why don’t both sides accept the Status Quo and move on. The Greek Cypriots were wronged and should get their land back or compensation in lieu. The Turkish Cypriots should stop whining about isolation. In effect their numbers were greatly enhanced by Turks from the mainland. That does not sound like isolation, it sounds like insulation. Blame your Turkish masters – seek redress from them not the rest of the world. Consider that a lot of Greek Cypriots lost everything when they were displaced. I cannot recall hearing them moan about being left high and dry. Instead, they set about becoming economically viable and have succeeded. By the way, unlike the north Turkish Cypriot land in the south has not been sold off to foreign investors. I personally have been shown prime land which was owned by Turks pre-1974 where nowadays goats and donkeys graze. (Cypriot goats not foreign ones)
