Fridges rated for tropical conditions ?

Postby lynne9999 » Wed Oct 18, 2006 9:22 am

Hi
I was looking an another forum  and saw this about moving furniture over from the UK. Is this true? as I was going to bring mine over

One thing you should not bring with you is your fridge. The ones they sell here are rated for tropical conditions.

Yes, they are but you might get away with your old Fridge - if it is worth bringing over. Also, Washing machines/dishwashers are cold fill only here; you can bring yours over but they will need some minor adjustment.

UK dishwashers and washing machines are already fully compatible with cold fill only...

It merely requires the hot and cold hoses to be connected to the cold supply, as the thermostat will then allow the water to be heated to the correct temp. Hot fill is for speed of wash, nothing more...

I am not big on washing machine technology :-) but, why in a country where we have lots of 'free' hot water (from solar panels) do we have cold fill only machines?

Hi Lynne,

You can bring your fridge over as Lana suggests, but I don't know how long it will last. Getting it repaired here could be a problem as I doubt very much that the service companies hold spares for UK models.

And Lana,

I don't know why you can't buy hot & cold fill washing machines and dishwashers. I tried to get them - everyones eyes glazed over as if they'd never heard of them.

Getting a washer-dryer here is also quite difficult. You can get the cheapo happy cr*ppy variety or the high-end jobbies, but nothing in between.

Cheers,

I had a 6 month old fridge, Hotpoint, when we moved here in Feb. 1 week later it packed up and I threw it out. Buy one from here and you will have more room in your container, cause if you bring your own, you will have to buy one eventually. UK white goods can't cope.

There's an conspiracy going on here - probably under the table... Between the machine manufactures and the electric company !!!
