Go direct or book a package holiday

Postby Brent2403 » Tue Oct 17, 2006 10:28 am

My wife and I visit Cyrpus at least once a year.

It has now come to our attention that, as there a vast number of private apartments for rent, it may be worth booking a flight direct and renting such an apartment.

The only downside is that it is only the two of us and most apartments sleep 4 ( + ) - this makes the possible saving small.

We flew with eurocypria and found them v good and would book direct with them ( via web site )

Please could any one offer advise to this

Thanks - Brent

The big travel agents can get huge discounts from the hotels and hotel apts. So I don't think you will save much if you go direct.

When I came over in June I found that the package companies (My Travel etc.) were cheaper than trying to put my own package together via the internet.

Brent is asking about private apartments, not those offered by travel agents and package companies!

Brent... if you look at the various holiday lettings sites, you will find reasonably-priced apartments. Some even charge extra for more than two or three guests! You can even find two-bedroomed apartments that are affordable by two people.

It's really down to getting the bargain flight.

Marion is correct.

It's the flight price that could work out expensive.

If you book well in advance though then you can get some really good bargains on flights.

We have found the cheapest flights with www.ba.com this year but you do have to book as soon as they come out otherwise they go up in price.

The appartments used by package tour operators tend to be very small and very basic and you have to fight for a space aorund the pool.

If you book an appartment or house direct with the owner then you will usually find that you get much better value for money in that the accommodation tends to be more spacious, better cooking facilities (if you want that) and you will also find that the service is usually good because you are booking direct with the owner who will do their best to ensure that you are happy. The pool areas around privately owned complexes tend to be quieter as most of the houses there will be privately owned and not used all year round.

It all really depends what you are looking for and what is important to you.

Sorry made me smile, had some friends visit last week & whilst here watched Peter Kay dvd's & his advice was use TELETEXT (book, pack & ---- off ) Sorry just think he's sooo funny.
But seriously if you can get a flight at the right price i would go independently, there are lots to choose from.

Now that AJet is no longer flying the capacity has decreased and cheap flights will dwindle away.

Usually it will work out cheaper doing a package. The exception is usually if you are single. Mind you a friend has a package for a week on half board in 3* named hotel in Limassol including flights, meals and transfers without a massive single supplement and is paying £221.00. The flight is from Gatwick.
For high season it can be cheaper going direct but off season unless you are staying more than 3 wks it is not usually worthwhile.

You may find a one bedroom apartment to book, thousands of people book there own accommodation world wide so some thing must be in it.

A new site I came across is www.holidayapartmentsvillas4rent.co.uk it is still being built, but has some nice property.
