Is oroklini so bad?

Postby chrisp » Tue Oct 17, 2006 7:44 am

hi

we moved to larnaca from the uk 3 months ago, and are looking to maybe purchase land and build our own house.
we have seen a plot in oroklini not too far from the villag which we love, but i have read some of the other threads wherby no-one seems to want to live where there are several 'ex-pats' (which i belive oroklini has)
is it really so bad living around them?

chris

I like Oroklini. But then, I don't live there permanently and the nightlife has dies on its arse.

It's a lovely place to live. I live in the Old Village part, we have a nice mixture of Greek Cypriots and Brits.

To be honest, I don't see whats so wrong with living with other Brits...I mean you are moving to another country, it's natural to want to stay around things you know...I mean look at 'Palmer's Greek' ( :) ) in London..Although you have to try and find the balance between the Cypriot and British cultures...

(hopefully that made sense...:P)

This is true! :D

I think it's probably called Palmers Greek, because you can slip 'Greek' in the name easily, instead of Green, and because so many 'Greek Cypriots' live there! (So half true :)) Oh so many....

Oroklini is beautiful...beautiful beaches and outside of the busy town (larnaca) but still very close...the only bad thing i would say is i wouldn't like to live so close to an area full of so many holiday-makers...never know what to expect soon as the summer comes round

Most of the Cypriots have moved out of Haringay ( known locally as little Cyprus) where everybody (and I mean everybody) lived in harmony -- now it's overcrowded with Eastern Europeans / Kurds and Turks all fighting each other --- which sometimes sadly spills out on to the streets

I do agree with the holiday makers, the months of july august and september are absoutely brutal.. can't even use our pool the hottest months of the year because of the 15 screaming children in it.. what's with these parents? they don't care that some people here are permanent residents and may not enjoy getting woken up to their screaming kids.. that is the worst part about living in Oroklini.. the tourists..
