New UN Sec. Gen. makes first speech

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

New UN Sec. Gen. makes first speech

Postby reportfromcyprus » Sat Oct 14, 2006 11:35 am

I've posted some quotes from Ban Ki Moon's first speech to the press as the new Secretary General; he's got some top priorities, including budget cuts because the UN is overstretched.

He hasn't mentioned Cyprus so far, but it's early days.

I agree with you cypezokyli, keeping the peace must be one of the most difficult things in the world to do.

He seems like a no-nonsense guy.

the problem with most SGs, is that the raise their voices only after they have been elected for a second term.

Personally I don't think this one will be different. The Americans would not allow somebody that could potentially go against their interests in this position.

Agree with Piratis on this one. Without US support for South Korea for the last 50+ years, who knows where they would be today, so the US will be expecting some "pay back" now. Kofi Annan was not liked by the Republicans at all. Then again, fascist only like their own kinds.

HI, I could be wrong on this, but I'm pretty sure there was a programme on recently (presented by Tony Robinson I believe), where it was said that some hard core evangelist christian Republicans believe that the UN secretary general is the 'antichrist'...although again I could be wrong....

Peace! :)

Presumably his name should sum up to a number.
The name of the new pope DOES sum up exactly!
