Japanese Motor Radio Frequency??

Postby orokliniservices » Tue Oct 10, 2006 10:52 pm

I own a Mitsubishi Colt here in Cyprus and unfortunately am not able to tune into 99.60 BFBS Radio 1 as my stations only go up to 89.99 is there any way of getting around this?

some radios have a switch to change the range, but if not, you will have to change the radio..

You need a frequency extender. It's a device which will connect between the aerial and the aerial socket. It's the size of a box of matches. I bought one from EBay for £15 for my Shogun in Cyprus.

If you can wait till February I can give you one ( frequency changer that is ) otherwise go to an electrical shop that sells this item ( and car radio's ) --- it cost me about £5 when I bought mine 7 years ago

It has a lead from it that connects to the positive side of the radio electrical supply and a lead to plug in your aerial and another lead to plug into the car radio.

It will never show the correct frequency on the radio's dial but you will be able to receive stations up to the normal fm 108 .

I bought a 'band expander' off t'internet some time ago for my japaneese car radio.
It has a switch which increaces the frequency by +10 or +20.

Seems to work reasonably well.

From http://www.japaneseimports.co.uk/faq.htm

Does the radio work?
Normally no - but we can fix it before you get the car with a clever device we get from New Zealand (where the imported cars have been going for years). It takes a short while to fit, and although the radio display won't be accurate, you can get nearly all the UK stations. Just use the presets, and the jobs done for you. These are top quality units which you can purchase for a nominal fee.
