Occupational Therapy in Cyprus

Postby zebedee » Tue Oct 10, 2006 4:26 pm

When we move over in Feb I'm hoping two kids and emigration won't have worn me out and I can find work. I am wondering if anyone knows of any Registered Occupational Therapists? I have contacted the Cyprus association but there are only 5 on the island, all working in the state sector - so until I can learn the language I'll have to consider private practice. Does anyone know if the private hospitals have OT's? (I am long qualified in both physical and mental health rehabilitation)
Any contacts much appreciated! :)
Lisa
PS coming over for two weeks next week!! Keep the sun shining, please!!!

Never heard of such thing before! If they told you that there only 5 that either means there is no demand or that if you find a job it will be paying good. One of the two! Private hospitals are few. The good ones are less than 10. You can just go there and talk to them during the next 2 weeks.

Thanks Sotos! Its a fantastic profession if anyone's interested - quite often providing the forgotten follow up after the medics/physios have patched up / treated the limb or disease. We work enabling people to live as independently as possible following physical +/or mental illness by teaching daily living skills again or redesigning the environment / providing specialised equipment. I love it! I'll shut up now..

http://www.cyprusclinics.com/

Dont know if this link will help zebedee.

I work for a private hospital group based in the uk working towards rehabilitation of patients sectioned under the mental health act.

Alas that is as far as I can help you as I am the Group Catering Officer and dont really get involved with the re hab itself only as far as nutritional therapy i'm afraid.

I hope you find somewhere to utilise your skills it does seem to be a neglected area in Cyprus
