British Blind Systems

Postby caroler » Sun Oct 08, 2006 4:20 pm

Has anyone had any dealings with Andy (from Manchester) who advertises in the Cyprus Mail under British Blind Systems and operates out of Paphos?

I ordered blinds and curtains with him, gave him Cyp200 deposit and arranged delivery time one month later. After the delivery date passed I tried to call him but the number was unavailable. He turned up on my doorstep a few days later saying his suitcase with all his papers and mobile had been lost at the airport in England and he needed another 200 pound cheque which I gave him then went to my bank the following morning to cancel the first cheque. He also gave me his British Blind Systems card with a new telephone number.

A new delivery time was arranged - he did not turn up and I have been trying to call his new number but it is constantly unavailable.

He advertised again in the Cyprus Mail last Tuesday with yet another mobile telephone number that is constantly unavailable.

What can I do?

Go to the police ?.

Never heard of a business man putting important papers and his mobile in his suitcase. That should have set the alarm bells ringing.

I second that. To be honest with you I wouldnt have given him a cheque the second time. It sounded too shady already. Did he cancel the second cheque? Maybe talk to your bank and see if you can dispute the charge and charge it back, but you should definately talk to the cops.

1. Go to the Police.

2. Use a reputable company like Euroblinds or whatever.

3. There are many expatriates living here who prey on the fears of their fellow countrymen - avoid them like the plague.

When I read the title of this thread I thought it was about Braille or something similar  It remind me of this joke:

A nun is having a bath and there is a knock at the door "who's there" she cried - "Blind man" came the reply. That's OK she thought, he won't be able to see me. "come in then" she called, "Nice t.ts love, where do you want the blind".

Thanks for the joke Sotos  - you obviously know how to cheer people up.

I am going to the police tomorrow morning.

Did you get receipts each time? I'd cancel all cheques and go to the police. Sounds way tooooo dodgy! Was he wearing a stetson?? :D

Is Paphos turning into a new Costa Del Crime??. It's gone very "Marbella" in many ways!!!

He definately was not wearing a stetson but he did turn up with a much older guy whom he said was his father.................... the Godfather perhaps????

The 'Godfather' actually borrowed one of my Dan Brown books. Maybe all the mafioso down in Paphos have gone off to a retreat to discuss the book and that is why I have not got my blinds!

Gosh, you are generous Caroler. Lending out books as well. This guy has the cheek of the devil..... Are you sure the older guy wasn't his Probation Officer???

Good luck, I hope you get your blinds and/or your money back. :)
